So I watched X3 on HBOHD this month to see if I could salvage any respectability out of it......it still one of the clunkier comic movies ever, and a sham of a summer blockbuster.

First of all, the zipchord freefall pacing is ever more apparant. Great characters like Xavier & Beast are spewing out relavatory information at a Gilmore Girls pace,

Secondly, the score is so awefully mismatched. All of the tense scenes are immediately followed by whimsically sounding woodwinds, normally reserved for lighter moments.

Finally, the miss-characterization of key rolls in the movie still baffle me. I mean, what's the point of making an X-Men movie without Cyclops being a central figure. That was the second movie in a row where he was increasingly pushed aside, and it makes no sense when compared to the original.

But don't get me started on characterizations because we all know it won't end pretty.

I KNOW!

I see X2, and see what hope it left us with, then I see X3 and see how they botched it up, it hurts!

So many characters were abused in this film. Rogue taking the cure, Cyclops dying off camera and nobody but Jean cares, Wolverine acting like the spirit of Cyclops has taken over his body. Seriously, would Logan ever give the kids that speech before the final battle. Or say things like "hold this line". The guy's supposed to be a brawler not a strategist!

So it's not any better on Cable?

I regret the very day that I purchased this DVD.

At least the DVD offers corrections to a few of the problems: Rogue being cured, Beast choosing a position as UN ambassador over the school etc

Everytime I see it, i get so mad when it just goes straight into the movie without Professor X's famous beginning speech. :(

Maybe Ratner should have been more focused on getting a scene properly done after a few takes so he wouldn't have to waste time reshooting and completely changing many of these scenes. X-Men 3 is the only movie I've heard of that has over 20 deleted scenes.:wow:

I've been asking this question since X1. And the name "Wolverine and sometimes the X-men" still makes more sense for these films. Hell, I don't even know why Wolverine is coming out with his own flick, he had 3 thus far. I'd like to see an X-Men film.

I watched the movie again very recently... and despite the negativity that builds up steam on these message boards, I still enjoyed it. I don't believe it's as bad as people would like to have everyone believe, though I agree there are flaws in it.

I decided to watch it rather than be sucked into the vortex of negativity that is often based on distorted recollections and bitter obsessions. I could easily pick all three movies apart but it's much easier to sit back and watch them first.

X3 is by no means a crapfest. If we'd had a Beast covered in pink fluff or a Storm shouting 'Wind and lightning, hear my cry' or a Leech looking like an ET cast-off...THEN I'd be throwing bricks at the TV and holding ceremonial burnings of the DVD.

Same here. It's been on HBO practically on a loop this month, so I've seen it in segments the last few weeks....and I enjoyed it. We had it on at my parents' house a few weeks ago and everyone was really into it (well maybe not my mom:oldrazz: ). So not worth griping over frame anymore.

I haven't watched X3 for the longest time. I have no intention on watching such a disappointment ever again.

Although I will say 30 Days of Night, We Own The Night, and Saw 4 are looking excellent.

I saw 3:10 to Yuma tonight (which featured a terrific performance by X3's Ben Foster), and the Saw 4 trailer got a group groan from the audience.

The only horror movie I'm looking forward to is the one-night rerelease of Poltergeist next week.

That was my point! I was trying to do the exact same thing you did, except I could not get past how big of a hack job the story was!?

Yeah, the movie looks great! The acting is as quality is you're gonna get in that type of movie. But it's literally the biggest meltdown I've seen, where the flaws still boiled to the surface and infuriate me to no end.

You don't even have to be a fan of the comics or the 90s TV series (most of you) to watch the three, and feel confused and cheated in X3.

That's just the impression that I got....again.

If it qualifies as 'the biggest meltdown' you've ever seen, you need to get out more! :oldrazz:

I think you should reserve any meltdowns for bigger events in the wider world, not a piece of celluloid.

Arguments over the good and bad of X3 are well-rehearsed on here. They've been reheated so many times now that they are distinctly stale and unappetising, like the remnants of a TV dinner stuck in the microwave for 500 consecutive evenings.

We'll know from Wolverine and the Magneto/X-Men Origins spin-offs if things are now being done differently.

Hey, did anyone manage to re-edit x3, adding alternative scenes and some of the deleted ones?
Was wondering if it bettered the film in any way.:oldrazz:

The same ones who groaned will be the ones seeing Saw 4 on opening night.

Although I do wish they stopped at 3. But with the confirmation of 5 and 6 being greenlit I must say they're going to milk it until the end. But I'm excited about it and will definitely be there opening night.

Still haven't seen 3:10 to Yuma. Brave One and The Kingdom are absolutely fantastic.

Not really...one of them was me, and I despise those movies. The majority of the audience was older than me, and didn't seem to be fans. Even my dad, who will sit through anything, whispered "God, those movies are awful..." when the trailer ended.

3:10 to Yuma was fantastic though, you should definitely check it out. My next movie is probably going to be Eastern Promises, I've heard it's great.

Meh, Saw films are mainly for those who enjoy gore horror films with a interesting story added in. Personally I love the films and so far they've managed to surprise me with every twist, however, there comes a time when a great thing has to stop and 3 Saw films is enough.

HOPEFULLY for me the 4th one is great and they don't do a 5 or 6. Bleh. Before we know it we'll have Saw X: Jigsaw in Space.

Eastern Promises was going to be playing at the theater I work at, however, due to it scoring a 3 stars on graphic sex, violence, language, and so forth we couldn't show it to the public. I was pretty bummed out. :csad:

I love horror films, and I give the first Saw credit for being an original idea, but I can't stand the whole torture movie genre it's since spawned. Enjoy it, though...I'm sure it's going to make its usual gazillions on opening weekend.

That's one of the perks of working in NY, we have every movie playing here.

You should approach watching X3 from the perspective I have. The movie is so bad I always get a kick out of watching it now. I feel like I'm
experiencing an episode of mystery science theater 3000 when I watch X3.:oldrazz:

Completely agree. The script has its flaws, but I was thoroughly entertained by the movie.

And the "fight" between Wolverine and Jean is, IMO, one of the coolest scenes in the entire trilogy.
