On par with the finale of Breaking Bad, perhaps even higher.

That was one of the greatest seasons of television I have ever seen in my life, I'm really at a loss for words. One of the greatest experiences I have probably ever had watching anything ever.

Was Rust hallucinating before Childress attacked, or was that something even more. I'm going to choose to believe there was something more to it.

I want to say that like Breaking Bad, although the finale was great i don't believe it actually was the best episode of the season/series?

That's not necessarily a bad thing though, a finale should be satisfying but it shouldn't necessarily have to be the best episode.

There's still part of me that considers the first 4 episodes ahead of the last 4 but overall still an amazing season.

ps. I sooo can't wait for the blu-ray set of this to come out.

Uh so.. who is the Yellow King? did I miss something

I don't think it was Errol Childress exactly so I don't think it was completely explained. I think it's more of a spiritual/metaphorical deity that the members of the cult all worship rather than one specific person. Childress was a monster that was taken out but there's still a larger web of conspiracy at play that didn't and couldn't be brought to justice.

Also, it's not totally fair to compare this show to Breaking Bad. That was a 62-episode story with different goals and methods. This show is a different animal in that it's a truncated eight episodes with a closed-off story. And really, who cares which one's better?

It's art, you can compare it no matter how long or short it is, what its goals were, none of that matters. What matters is how much people enjoyed it, be it 62 episodes or 8 episodes. You can compare The Godfather to The Simpsons if you're so inclined.

No one's crying about it. We're just saying it was a loose end. Go back and watch the scene with the dolls, it wasn't about "playing homicide like her daddy". With a show like this, everything means something. They showcased Marty being a crappy dad, the daughters scenes were not part of this.

I haven't seen the final two episodes yet so am trying to avoid spoilers in here! But i'm curious, the next season... are they doing this like an anthology of sorts with different characters next time? That'd be quite interesting, as much as i absolutely love Harrelson and McConaughey in this.

Yeah, this is simply one of the best TV shows ever made, obviously, it's only one season, but I'd say it seriously rivals Breaking Bad, easily the best new series in a while. The season finale was ridiculously good, Matt & Woody killing it, and Rust's monologue at the end is fantastic.

Season 2 pitch given by Pizzolatto sounds intriguing & yummy, although there's one thing that I fear, more like two things: without Matt & Woody, it's going to pale, and I think that regardless of any great actors they cast, it's going to be very hard to make it as compelling, second: the director, Fukunaga I think was a big part of what made it so great, the news that there might be several directors (like all tv shows) for season 2 is not a great one, although not surprising as it's a lot of work.

Jeff Nichols would be my number one choice for season 2, he just excels at this strong sense of place stuff & developing strong characters, he's got a great visual sense as well.

For the actors in season 2, I just hope and I know it's going to sound very misogynistic, I hope that there won't be a female detective or something, I would hate for Pizzolatto to give in to some of the complaints against the show that it's all about the men, and etc, and I agree, I personally (my opinion) never find female characters as compelling as men's, there's a reason why male characters are so prevalent overall.

I don't care if the detectives are male or female as long as they get top tier actors for said roles. The chemistry will never quite be the same as McConaughey and Harrelson but they might be able to emulate it with similar real life a list buddies.

I think Denis Viluneuve would be a good choice in director. As for casting, if the two leads are female then I'd like to see Jessica Chastain there. If there's a male detective? Peter Dinklage.

Don't think Hathaway has ever played a cop/detective before. Would make for some good range work.
