Critics are raving over this horror film out of Sundance. I've seen comparisons to The Babadook, The Sixth Sense, Rosemary's Baby, and The Exorcist. Toni Collette is being praised across the board for her performance.

When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter's family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited. Making his feature debut, writer-director Ari Aster unleashes a nightmare vision of a domestic breakdown that exhibits the craft and precision of a nascent auteur, transforming a familial tragedy into something ominous and deeply disquieting, and pushing the horror movie into chilling new terrain with its shattering portrait of heritage gone to hell.

They try so hard over there. :funny:

It would be nice to see another horror film break through the major categories, through. Assuming Hereditary actually lives up to this kind of early hype. I'm always a bit wary of critics raving over horror films. They tend to overhype things and make it almost impossible for these films to live up to expectations.

Personally, I love The Witch. I think it's a perfect film. One of my favorite horror films ever. But the fact that the critics sold it with the cliched "Scariest movie ever!!" label did it no favors.

Have you seen them defend that Haddish nightmare in General Reaction thread? Mother of God I barely escaped with my life

The Witch's biggest obstacle was the language thing. The film is remarkable and Anya makes my line up last year, thank God at least she got a big breakout role out of that and hopefully Thoroughbreds won't suck as much as its trailer

The antiquated dialect was definitely an issue. No doubt about that. But seriously, if it were up to me I would have nominated The Witch for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Score, and Best Costume Design. It's an excellent film that deserves repeat viewings.

As for this movie, just taking a glance at the reviews so far and I'm already seeing them overhyping the **** out of it. "Is there such a thing as too scary?"

Here's hoping for the best, I suppose. Maybe this will be our generation's Exorcist.

Someone just give me spoilers. I don’t like watching these kinds of films just reading about them.

Check those reactions, y'all.

Sold.

I'm guessing this is the mystery A24 horror film scheduled for March.

Release Date is June 8th.

Looks like it will be quite unsettling. I hope it delivers.

I hope that it's awesome and that I manage to stay away from spoilers

Fortunately I watched the trailer and have no clue what's going on.

The people who saw it say the trailer is terrific and reveals nothing important

Awesome. Hope this delivers. I absolutely adore The VVitch, but I admittedly didn't care much for It Comes at Night. If this is more like the former, I should eat it up.

I loved The VVitch, haven't seen the other one, this somehow looks even creepier than The VVitch because at least there you knew what was happening :funny:

I'm getting creepy It Follows vibes here

What's supposed to be so scary about this trailer?. I've watched it like 4 times trying to see what others are seeing but just kinda ending up going, meh, looks ok. Am I alone in this or is this a simple case of everyone saying it is scary so those of us that haven't seen it are just going with the crowd?

I'm more intrigued, if anything.

Trailers never scare me anyway.

Great trailer, I'm immediately skeptical when people talk about a movie being the scariest thing they've ever seen, but I liked The Witch, and I don't think they can misadvertise a film like this like they did It Comes At Night. :funny:

Toni Collette is one of our most underrated actresses, everything she does is quality, this looks amazing. Definitely in, within the possible context of what is presented, the story and narrative could go any number of ways, thats what is so exciting about this film to me.

The trailer for this is really solid with some truly effective and disturbing imagery, but I won't got into this with super high expectations, because I have been dissapointed before. I hate this new trend with horror movie trailers that have all these random quotes that do nothing, but overhype the movie IMO.
