Horror Hereditary (2018)

Midsommar is an oddly cathartic movie if you've ever felt trapped in an unhealthy relationship.

Not so much as being in the occult is pretty unhealthy relationship wise.

As for Hereditary, while a good movie overall it was just too insidious and fetid for me to really want to own. It's just at it's core rotten. The grandmother's oddities, the sisters awkardness and what happens to her body, the broken nose, the family breakdown, the slow move-in of the occult crowning the son at the end really was insidious to it's core. A24 really has quite a collection of occult related movies from The Witch to The Blacksmith's Daughter that just make me wonder what the fixation is.

The Green Knight looks it will have some kind occult like layering put in as well. What's going on here? I kind of wonder if A24 will make a movie interconnecting some at some point in some kind of pullback revisionist way to sell them as a collection.

A24 is funded by the occult and tbh I say we should I keep that curse going. It’s clearly getting results.

Unlikely but funny to consider that seeing how most horror movies don't care to infuse their content with much social layering.

I currently own (regrettably only seen 2 so far):

Black Smith's Daughter (horror)
First Reformed (Drama/Suspense)
A Most Violent Year (Drama/Suspense)
A Ghost Story (Drama)
Ex Machina (Scifi)
The Death of Dick Long (mystery/psychological)
Free Fire (Action/Comedy)
Laggies (Romance/Drama)
The Farewell (Drama/Comedy)

Next to get:
The Spectacular Now (Romance)
The Souvenir (Romance)

Have Seen but probably won't own:
It comes at Night (drama/suspense)
The Witch (horror/drama)
High Life (scifi)
Hereditary (horror)
Midsommar (horror)
The hole in the ground (horror)
room (drama/suspense)
the monster (horror/thriller)

I looked on their website just now and see a lot of films I don't if they produce themselves in house so much as buying out at times. I haven't seen any of their TV stuff.

I enjoyed the film, but I remember there being something so uniquely unsettling about this trailer the first time I saw it that I do wind up just a bit disappointed that the movie itself didn’t quite match that level of discomfort.

Sounds like the stuff i’d like to own.

Got ticket for Ex Machina, just waiting for Hereditary to be announced at my IMAX.

Wednesday night? Ehhhh.

Should've done it on a Sunday night.

I have Hereditary on blu-ray & digital so I can't justify this, but if you haven't seen it I still think it's Aster's career best and a good movie to see in a theater. Garland's Ex Machina is also a good one.

Uncut Gems has been on my watchlist forever I just never seem to get around to it.
