Horror Hereditary (2018)

Collette won the Gotham Award for Best Actress.

Doesn't mean too much (these awards are voted on by like 5 people), but the exposure is good nonetheless. Keeps her in the conversation. If she can win NYFCC and/or LAFCA, she's back in the hunt.

Awesome! Ethan Hawke won as well.

Come on A24, don't lose the momentum.

Collette is such an underrated actress. I mean, people know her and she gets a lot of work obviously, but I feel like she doesn't get enough credit for her versatility. Hell, I didn't even know she was Australian until like the sixth movie I saw her in.

I'm predicting a snub for Collette.

Just watched this on amazon prime. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I was pleasantly surprised. Spectacular acting!

Finally got around to watching this, and now I'm kicking myself for not doing so before that Toy Story 4 teaser hit.

So ... This was one of my favorite movies of 2018.

Toni Colette being unacknowledged for her performance during awards season was absolutely criminal.

Criminal indeed. Borderline a war crime.

I love this movie more and more every time I watch it. I pick up on something new each time. I didn't realize just how many times the cult's presence is teased throughout the movie.

^ Same. I was unsure the first time I saw it since there was too much to process and make sense of it but upon a second viewing, I got a different sense of satisfaction knowing what it was going to happen and how everything was laid out since the beginning.

Never thought, I‘ll something as disturbing as Hereditary…than I saw Midsommar

Nothing has topped his short film The Strange Thing About the Johnsons in terms of disturbing content. lol

Beau Is Afraid is a cool little short film too. There's one part in particular that is straight out of my nightmares.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: just reading the synopsis on Wikipedia unsettled me for like a week straight.

Midsommar was a one-time watch for me and I’m a big horror fan.

I actually think Hereditary is scarier and more disturbing than Midsommar. The latter is basically a modern day Wicker Man with an emphasis on fragility of mental illness and loneliness while the former is a modern day Rosemary’s Baby with a focus on the complexities of family dynamics/secrets and destiny.

I remember seeing Hereditary in theaters and having a strong sense of dread and being extremely uncomfortable. I think the idea of cults and religious zealots is something I’ve always found unsettling despite being an atheist.

The last ten minutes of Hereditary are pure nightmare.

It’s funny how much I love Midsommar but can’t stand Hereditary. I think most of it is laughable and yet it takes itself seriously. Midsommar understands how goofy & disturbing it is. Hereditary has over cooked acting, and doubles down on every modern studio horror trope there is. The ending is so silly and yet they play it straight. The seance where Colette starts talking like a little girl is one of the dumbest things I’ve seen from the last few years.

You’ll be hearing from my lawyer. :o

I like Hereditary, but it is way too weird at places and the ending kind of brings it down to me.

Midsommar, on the other hand, is amazing and one my favorite horror films ever.
