Someone said something about making a thread about SpTAS and TSSM so here we go.

Anyway, it is unfair to compare 15 episodes with a whole series with a couple of seasons under its belt, but for something like this it is inevitable. Back in the 90's action cartoons became more than 30 minute toy commercials like the 80's products. With shows like Batman TAS and X-Men (TAS) standards were raised to make a good action series. Spider-Man had a series in the 90's as well, and although it has not aged as well as say X-Men or Batman, it still had some good points and was a good representation of the web slinger. In fact on of my favorite scenes in cartoon history is on that show...

-from Goblin War (not to sure if this is exactly how it went, but it was like this)
*Felicia accidently opens Jason's secret lair and a Hobgoblin costume falls out and she doesn't think anything of it.*
*Hobgoblin appears*
Felicia: Hobgoblin! Why are you here?!

Now we move on to this decade, we had shows like The Batman, Spider-Man (the MTV run based on the movies) and now have shows like Batman the Brave and the Bold, where as BtBatB are too diferent to compare to BTAS and even The Batman, this show can be comared to both Spider-Man shows.

So how do you feel this show measures up to it's predecessors? Are there any portrayals of characters you prefer in one series over the others?

i think it lives up to the predecessors and i hope it will surepass all former spidey shows and be the definite show.

I know that SM:TAS is loved very much, but I personally kinda dislike it. On a more superficial level, its animation left much to be desired, the action scenes were often underwhelming, if not outright boring. Of the more important matters, the thing that annoyed me most was that alot of the stories were full of cheap melodrama that has not aged well at all. And let's not even start with the crazy censorship; yes, it's true that the TV networks would bear much fault for that, but it's still a flaw for the show.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that it was a bad show - I enjoyed it well enough as a kid, but it's not among the greatest superhero cartoon shows, IMO.

Now, obviously, we are still near the beginning of TSSM and on theory they could muck it up any time, but for now I like it way more. Its animation is much more fluid and pleasant to the eye (though that may be contributed in part to the better technology today) and the action sequences are so much better that it's hard to actually compare them. The character development is also better, IMO (although it has its flaws as well - I personally count for such the rushed arc with Eddie and Venom), and the stories seem much more unpretentious without the overly used melodrama and yet I find them more intriguing.

I like how this show takes it easy on the science fiction. TAS would have Kingpin send robotic hovercrafts out of the Chrysler building piloted by genetically altered time travelling cyborgs to shoot poorly aimed lasers at sPider-Man who would be saved at the last minute by Madame Web transPorting him into a magical dimension. All the while, the episode's supporting character was in love with somebody who was in love with somebody else and wouldn't shut up about it while the soap opera music played.
