How long until we have a successor to Blu Ray?
We had Laserdisc, Betamax, VHS, DVD, Blu Ray...what's next? How long do we have?

Or do you think there will even be a next version of physical home media entertainment? Will everything just be digital after Blu Ray?

Personally I think everything will be digital after Blu Ray, however long it takes. I prefer physical copies, but I can see digital movies being the future.

Their cheaper to buy even in HD, they're cheaper to make and package, and they're automatically in the cloud or whatever. I mean I have hard copies of all my movies but I still rip them all to the cloud

What do you think?

They started doing 4k transfers , so blu Ray is evolving. However people are really slow with switching to blu ray. I suspect digital would be the most obvious way to go , but with things like Netflix it's not really necessary to own a ton of films. So the next step is right in front of us. We just haven't really embraced that for a number of reasons. Not everyone is hip to the technology , some people like having physical copies ( people like me) , and then there's the idea that they may charge people to access their library on places like vudu (it could become a monthly service). So we have the next step, it's just a matter of people switching over. Sort of like people still owning Vcrs even after dvd came out and still having them for a long time.

On Black Friday they had the new tmnt on sale on vudu as a digital download but I decided to wait until next week for the blu ray. I could of saved ten dollars. What's wrong with me.

Yeah, 4K is the next step but for me this is it. I'm happy with the blu-ray quality. My eyes are ok with that. No need to keep changing stuff and spending more money.
