How would you start the movie off?

Hi all im curious about other fans visions for the begining of this movie, by begining im talking about the intro scenes before and during the Superman theme comes on. What are ur ideas?

Ill write mine when i have some time but untill then have fun with showing us ur vision.

Not sure actually, but I'd definitely want to be grapped instantly and thrown into it.

I wouldnt mind a hectic action-scene like the chase-scene from ST:A New Hope or something to that effect. Do it like Birthright and throw us into a chaotic scenario with an unknown enemy overthrowing Krypton and have the Els send off their son.

They could also just start scene 1 with a big-ass insane showdown between Supes and a super-villain. That would grap everyone I think.

Superman Returns was often said to be too dramatic, not enough action so I would start the movie off with a nice juicy fight with Superman versus Metallo.

Then as the story progresses throughout the movie, Superman learns more about his Kryptonian ancestry and what daily life was like on Krypton. This puts him into constant contact with Brainiac.

Then the same opening that is in Superman Birthright, Jor El and Lara put baby Kal-El in the rocket, rocket leaves and as its moving the picture changes to that of a bullet and we see Clark in Africa

Open on the Daily Planet globe and pan back to reveal the city, (Lexcorp Tower etc)

We hear an explosion off in the distance and we join the action mid-fight,
centre in on a costumed villain rising from a crater in the street (someone BIG! Atomic Skull, Grundy or Metallo)... From behind the villains perspective we see a pair of red boots and cape (the mass of the character obscures the our hero)

Then in a red/blue blur of motion we speed toward the villain and watch from Superman's perspective as he throws some hay-makers at the villain.

Citizens scream and some gather around, Lois & Jimmy push their way to the front and Jimmy lift his camera to snap the action.

This is when we see Superman for the 1st time lifting the villain over his head and holding him there (picture the globe scene from Returns) and we watch him slo-mo bodyslam him into the street...


Introducing Superman as an action character in the opening minutes sets the tone for the entire movie!!

I wouldn't mind a beginning similar to Abrams' Star Trek, instead of it being the chaos of the Kelvin coming under attack, it would be the chaos of Krypton about to be destroyed.

This would be great, especially if it were pre titles.

I'm always kind of against too much focus on Krypton, because I want them to spend more time on his human side, but I could appreciate starting the film of with the chaos of the planet being destroyed, and I think it would definitely resonate with the audience who are used to seeing that part of the story but have never seen it in a modern and exciting way.

Didn't the legal stuff not allow 'Jor-El' and the Kryptonian origins to be shown onscreen in this film?

i like how Nolan opens his Batman films with a pure visual...the Batman symbol with some sort of effect (BB with bats flying and TDK with the symbol breaking apart), so seeing something similar would be cool. maybe the shield in space with various shard of space matter and debris flying past the symbol.

i also like the idea a fellow Hyper (i forget who) had with a newscast covering a foreign incident being shown and accidentally capturing pre-Superman Clark Kent showing off his powers by doing good. maybe there's a terrorist organization about to fire upon innocent civilian hostages and we see this guy dressed in regular clothing (no glasses yet) being held behind a barrier shouting at the top of his lungs for them to stop. all of the sudden as the terrorists are about to fire we see the guy break from the barrier (sending security flying) and manhandling the terrorists. afterward when all is done, he looks around realizing exactly what he's done, sees the camera capturing everything and in a panic blasts off into the sky only to use his heat vision to blast the camera out of the cameraman's hands before he disappears from the frame. then maybe even seeing Martha and Jonathan on their couch watching the whole incident, one of them with a smile the other with a disapproving look...



...i guess it's nice to dream about what we'd like to see even if it ultimately won't turn out that way. it doesn't matter how we'd like the start the movie since Snyder is the one making it, hehe.

 

[Blitzkrieg Bop]

Daytime, Metropolis, city street, two thugs on a rooftop, they're Intergang members. They're setting up some weaponry (non-Apokiliptic) out of large metal cases. There's something on their backs. They've been ordered to blow up Metropolis PD HQ with rocket launchers. Some dialogue about "The boss," the job, etc. Music's playing to really cause some suspense, Thug #1 has set up his weapon and is about to fire until a large shadow casts itself over Thug #2. He turns around and is in awe with a mixture of fear.

He tugs on the shirt of his partner, to which he responds, "What?" but he doesn't turn around. Thug #2, unable to look away from the large figure, tugs harder. "What?!" He turns his head and Thug #2 can only point towards the sky and Thug #1's face runs white. It's Superman; heroic music kicks in, cape flowing, bright sunshine as his backdrop, arms crossed, slight smirk. Thug #1 snaps out of it, panics, and does the one thing he can think of; fires the weapon.

Superman doesn't even flinch, he catches the rocket with one hand, then blows ice breath on it until freezes completely. He throws it towards Thug #2 with enough force to knock him on his ass. Thug #1 grabs a handgun and starts firing off rounds. Superman grabs each and every bullet with super speed ease. He grounds them up into dust and lets it fall through his hands.

Thug #1 hits a large button on his belt and a jet pack is fired up. He flies off the rooftop and heads for the direction opposite Superman. Superman just exhales and chases after him. The jet pack is fast, but not Superman fast. The crook flies around some buildings, perhaps Lexcorp or the Daily Planet, with Superman in hot pursuit. He catches the bad guy and puts him in a bear hug, which crushes the jet pack. Meanwhile, Thug #2 fires up his means of escape and Superman hears it.

With the gun happy Intergang member under one arm, Superman flies back the way he came to catch the other one. Thug #2 is still a bit shaken, but carries on. Superman's had his fun with these guys and now just wants to end it. With Thug #2 in sight, Superman takes a slightly higher altitude to get a better angle. He rips off the jet pack of Thug #1 and throws it directly at Thug #2's jet pack. He gets just the right amount of force to break the second, but not enough to seriously harm the guy.

The criminal screams towards his doom as he is now flightless, but a violet comet swoops by, catches him, and thus prevents him from becoming street pizza. The guy looks at Superman relieved, but then looks back down at the busy street, and becomes so scared he actually clutches to Superman like a child. Classic Superman grin as he flies away, both thugs caught.

Then it would go to the Daily Planet, Lois sitting at her computer, typing up a story, but I think I've written enough.

Probably Superman traveling the world to solve some international problem like a War or something. Few glimpses of savings, etc.

My intro [credits] would be sorta like Watchmen's intro, but I'd show how Krypton blew up, Kal-El being sent to earth, being raised, etc. All with some cool music.

Something huge, like a major disaster in a remote part of the world or something.
An Earthquake? volcano? flood? it doesn't matter. Just show the citizens in mortal danger, their goverment powerless to save them. Just when things look the darkest, superman appears. You could even have a couple of the people look up, point, and say in their native language the classic line we all know.

If it were to be a pure origin story as in destruction of Krypton and all, then I like the idea of actually starting in a different place...in Metropolis, where Jonathan and Martha Kent go to see a specialist and are told conclusively that conceiving their own child just wouldn't work out. I think it would be interesting to start with them and with their pain over not having children, but Jonathan assuring her that somehow, someway things would work out. Then I would switch to the familiar Krypton scenes leading into them finding the rocket.

If not then I would take the Africa scenes from Birthright and flash back from them.

There needs to be build up to the big reveal. You can have action, like disasters or people causing menace but you can't just have Superman out there right away. It takes away from the excitement of the first big reveal. It's better if Superman finally comes when all hell is breaking loose and people feel nobody is going to help them. Then you will care about Superman kicking ass.

Wow some great ideas here. My turn

Opens on a frozen wasteland, a fierce blizzard sweeping across the screen, a lone figure wonders off in the distance heading north, we close in on the figure, face coverd and feet stagering,all we see is a shining bright crystal clutched to his chest.

The blizzard dies down and the figure comes to a stop on an ice dune and looks off into the distance across the frozen tundra, focus on the figure as he removes his face wrappings "we hear the first few tones of the superman theme in a nice slow dramatic way as we reveal a young Clark Kent" he looks at the crystal, it glows, he grips it tightly the throws it at it flys straight at the camera, the fortress constructs its self and Clark enters it.

Disinbodied voices of Jor-El and Lara-El is heard and discribes some of Clarks origins, Krypton and such for the audiance.

He asks what should he do with these powers, how can he help people and still live a life with them, he recieves no answer....He shouts " Please!! What must i know!!"

Off screen we here Lara-Els voice " Kal-El, my son", Clark looks around and then his face full of suprise and he takes a step back.

The camera pans to the left and we see what had suprised Clark so, and there they stand, Jor-El and Lara-El dressed in Kryptonian formal garbs both with the Shield on there chests "at this point the intro music to SR begins (which is what i used to visualize all this)" and Joe-El says " My son, you have alot to learn" both he and Lara share a knowing smerk on there faces, we get a quick look at Clarks confused reaction and then back to his folks with and arm around Lara the camera flys straight into the sheild on Jor-ELs chest.

Now for the begining creds i always wanted to see a Flash Gorden kinda intro with comic pages flying at the screen starting from what happened with Krypton, to the Kents finding Clark, to Clark discovering his powers, Daily Planet and Superman fighting bad guys. With an intro like this the film could start from whatever point the Director wants, from a rebooted origin, to being Superman already as the intro has kinda shown what hes about. Sorry if its not so easy to see but its really clear in my head and it would look so cool. Let me know wat u think.

(Oh and also i was thinking of a stargate tunnel effect while the comic pages flew at the screen the really landmark pages stopping or slowing down to show the audiance his story).

If this is an origin story and we can assume that Superman is not yet established as a character at the start of it (but is instead in Clark Kent guise, travelling the globe and performing saves here and there) then I'd like the film to open with the camera VERY slowly focusing in closer and closer on a grainy TV report of some kind. This could be seen perhaps from the point of view of Martha Kent sitting in the Kent Farm watching it.

A news bulletin perhaps, chronicling these mysterious incidences of heroism across the globe .............. which all have similar traits.

• A child in Venezuala falls from a window in a large apartment block but is plucked from the air moments before hitting the ground. She describes her saviour as a man with dark hair who smiles and reassures her she will be ok ............ before flying off.
  
• A packed commuter train in Delhi is seconds from disaster when a truck crossing the track in front of it becomes stuck. Shocked witnesses describe a large, strongly built man appearing from nowhere, lifting the truck out of the way and disappearing as quickly as he appeared.
• Customers and staff at a bank in Metropolis, USA are held hostage by a crazed gunman demanding money. The hostages describe how there is a blur, and within a few seconds their attackers is on the ground with his hands and feet handcuffed. The security guard's handcuffs are missing from his belt.
• Construction workers in Hong Kong, China, are elated after they escaped from a flooded subway they were working on. One man describes how they heard the water approaching them, but the water suddenly turned to vapour. He describes seeing a figure in the shadows with glowing red eyes.
• Engineers working at a powerplant in Belgium tells how they came close to death when a chemical tank caught fire and almost exploded. They describe a man appearing with great speed from nowhere and within seconds the fire was neutralised, before the man again disappeared. Investigators are mystified by the completely frozen tank.

With each story being read by a voice and accompanied by segments of video on the screen, we would zoom in closer and closer until focusing on one pixel ......... which gradually becomes the shape of an 'S' and leads to the titles.
