That thing that apeared in the latest Daredevil annual.

That is not the Black Tarantula that apeared in Amazing Spider-Man #419 to #436.
That Black Tarantula was an aristicratic and reserved mastermind that always spoke in an extreamly polite maner even during combat. Like ridiculously polite.
For example upon smashing a reining New York Crime Lords wall and stepping casually through he said.
"Please forgive this intrusion Don Fortunato,I have learned through means
innapropriate to divulge, that I was to be the topic of today's conversation.
I prefer to present my case in person. I am the Black Tarantula and I respectfully request your blessing to expand my interests into the the New York area."
He would never spout street slang.
The real Black Tarantula came from a criminal legacy that suposedly dates back to Marco Polo's first trips and has strong ties to an offshoot of the Hand called the True Believers.

He was often depicted loungeing in lavish lairs or studies drinking wine and doleling out orders to various minions around the world.

Street thuggery is beneth him and always has been.

So who apeared in this comic claiming to be him?
My three guesses?
A Skrull.
An Alpha.(See She Hulk #21)
El Uno. One of the real Black Tarantula's Henchmen. He has impersonated his master before.

I haven't read the annual yet but......I thought tarantula was killed by bullseye in jail in Brubaker's first arc? Or am I thinking of someone else?

You're putting way too much thought into this. The legend of the Black Tarantula tells of a European explorer gaining the powers, when in reality he's Brazilian. Also, the nature of the title and the powers of the Black Tarantula are passed down from father to son, with the son claiming the identity of the father. The character is basically up to interpretation, is what I'm saying.

Yes he is Brazilian but he like many modern North and South American residents is decended from a Europeans. One aparently being the explorer from the legend. And how does the fact that the name is passed from father to son leave him open for interpritation if this is the same exact man that apeared previously?

And this story didn't interprete this character it voided all of his past personality completely. It kept the name, powers, and some of the history.

All the little details where thrown out to make the character more "street".

The only son we know that the Black Tarantula from ASM had is still a baby. Unless he had a long-lost bastard child or passed on his powers to a complete stranger, it seems unlikely that this Black Tarantula in the DD Annual would be someone other than the same guy from ASM.

Excuse me? The overwhelming majority of South American residents descended from other South American residents. And if Carlos' lineage could be traced back to Europe, that still makes him Brazilian. If I were to become an explorer, I'd be labeled as an American explorer, not a European one, even though my ancestors came from Europe. See how this works, or do I need to break out the sock puppets that I usually reserve for Varient?

Well, because the well spoken, aristocratic BT could have been the father to the current gang leader BT. Still with me?

If the BT in the DD Annual and the BT in past ASM stories are one in the same, I'd agree. Since we don't know for certain AND we do know that the identity of the BT can often be a confusing one to figure out, I'll hold off on the accusations of bad characterization for now.

Valid points. I didn't really consider that, and I thought the annual was pretty crappy given who we were talking about, but I'll give it a bit for Bru to explain it out.

I liked the Annual. I wish BT would've stayed at the firm, but I have a feeling he'll be back soon.

His explorer ancester was European. Most likely from Portugal. Later his family moved to Brazil and eventually he was born. The current Black Tarantula is not the explorer his European ancestor is. :oldrazz:

The age is a all wrong for that.:oldrazz:

Same name. Same powers. Both beat up Spider-Man.:oldrazz:

You're assuming a lot. One, you're assuming that the BT in Spider-Man and the BT in DD are one and same. We don't know that. We know the name "Black Tarantula" is a title and we know the person who assumes the role of the Black Tarantula also assumes the role of Carlos LaMuerto. You're also assuming that at no point in one of the LaMuerto's lives did he bear any offspring that would not have been seen before. Lasty, you're assuming that the one child we do know LaMuerto had would be the one that I'm talking about.

Okay your wrong about them haveing to all be called Carlos. His son's name is Fabian. Secondly he said repetedly that Fabian is his only son and that the title is passed onto the first born son. Any other LaMuertos would not be allowed to call themselves the Black Tarantula.

So basicly your assuming that this mauling of a character is because of a never before mentioned son that is somehow the same age as his father.

Your not Reed Richards so stop stretching and admit that the Black Tarantula was written out of character.

In reality, the Black Tarantula's immortality has a more earthly origin: the title is inherited from father to son, all posing as the same person.

Does it really f**king matter? It's Black Tarantula. D-list villain gets a makeover who really gives a damn?

Littleredhat does, apparently. It gets his little red panties in a twist.

Black Tarantula (or, more likely, his son) is still pretty cool in Amazing Spider-Girl, if it's any consolation.

In the MC2, the Black Tarantula is Carlos' son Fabian.

Hey my panties have polka dots! Insulting somone's manhood only works if you are insulting a man.:oldrazz:

And your right they are twisted. It's painfull to see a character mutilated.

Sounds like one of the Masters of the Universe.
