oh great... no script, no plot, no director, one actor, and a release date for 2007!

It does have a script. David Benioff has been working on the script for ages, and is now putting the final polish on it.

Fox won't learn from its mistakes because they profit from them. They profited from X3 despite their horrible mistakes, so they'll repeat them again and again and again until people stop seeing these movies.

I know, and it is sad! I hope SR kills them... and i dont like superman over Xmen but maybe it will show them what a "great" movie can do over a "well advertised and placed (on memorial day) movie can do!" but maybe not. with the announcment of wolverine and FF2 all to be done with in 10 months.

Last i heard the 3rd script was rejected.

Don't think so. Hugh Jackman referenced Benioff's script recently and said it was just about good to go - and Jackman's producing as well as starring, so he should know.

I don't like Wolverine so much so if the movie ends up sucking I won't even see it.

well it isnt hugh i am worried about... i am worried about a studio that tries to put together comic movies in 10 months, and thinks cause they turn a profit that they are doing it right! wish there was a way to hit them in thier pockets!

You can't know it sucks though, unless you see it...

well guys i think i am gone. I dont care to have an account with this site anymore.

This was one of the first things I realized when I heard the announcement, that they don't have a director, there is only one actor and they wont start filming until all that comes into place. I think the least we can hope for is a release date later in the year, but I doubt that'll happen. Fox never learns...

if they do stick to their guns and go with a 2007 release...they're going to need all the time they can so it better not come out any earlier than October...personally I doubt it will even come out next year...this one is going to be a train wreck...I can already feel it, re-shoots, re-writes, re-casting supporting characters...Hugh, though committed...usually seems to find room for other projects between his attachments to Xmen and Wolverine...I wonder if he's having second thoughts...not just about the movie...but the release date and his personal schedule, can't be good news to him...unless he's thinking "the sooner I break away from Fox the better...so I better get it over with"...this mentality will translate on the screen, combined with negative buzz and offscreen drama....I predict failure on all counts.

This talk of Hugh wanting to break with Fox is folks projecting their own feelings about the studio onto him.

Hugh has a strong relationship with Fox. They've pretty much handed him control of this project. He's shepherded the screenplay, and he has the power to select a director (with the studio's input, of course).

Yes, Fox has screwed up on Marvel films in the past, but in this case we have a film that already has a script pretty much locked up, and a producer-star who knows what he wants and knows exactly how to play the part. There's really no reason for foot-stomping yet. Let's at least wait for the announcement of a director and release date before breaking out the pitchforks, shall we?

Oh yeah, I KNEW they were going to do this... That´s always the deal with Fox, they never give the filmmakers time to get the story right, it´s always about fast release and short screening time...

Oh come on people, calm it down. This script has been worked on, heck even before X3 was written for crying out loud. This film is going to be more focused and not near as broad a spectrum as the team film was. It will probably not be a FX extravaganza, and will more than likely be more character driven. Smaller scale. This film will have a a far shorter shooting schedule, possibly 2-3 months as opposed to 5 or 6. Now if they had announced they were going for a May release, yeah, I'd get a bit nervous, but a date has not been announced, and the date is always subject to change!!!!!!!!! Ghost Rider was moved around, wasn't it? Nothing is set in stone yet. They may be aiming for November or December.

So as GL's Light said, let's not break out the pitchforks quite yet, ok?

good post jan, i agree. now if fox will lol

I suppose, but I look at how well Superman Returns seems to be turning out, between reading reviews, some from papers where they usually hate everything, and hearing some positive fan reaction, not to mention the clips shown thus far, the film at least looks visually competent. Or Batman Begins, or Spider-Man. Films like this are the ones that do the best because the studios hire the right people and lets them do their job. Fox clearly didn't care that their screenwriters' credits included some of the worst reviewed movies of the last two years, INCLUDING comic book movies like Catwoman and Elektra. And once the script leaked to the public, FOX clearly didn't care that a vast majority of people HATED it. And then there's just months them blowing smoke up our asses. "Oh, Cyclops will have an important role in the film." "We've changed a lot in the script, so some things are different." and so on, and so on. Not to mention featuring characters and costume who never appear in costume in the film. That's just deceptive and insulting to the audience. Seeing Angel in uniform on the Premiere cover really lifted my expectations for the character in the film, only to discover his involvement is so minimal, he might as well not have been in the film at all. They could have made up a character exclusively for the film whose company developed the cure, or even, expand on the Rao character. Make it her project alone.

And I think that's been the big thing that's bothered fans with the X-Men films, countless wasted characters. I've enjoyed Mystique in the films, and I wouldn't necessarily complain about the fact that her relationship with Rogue AND Nightcrawler is excluded from the films. But dammit, they couldn't even hint at Sabretooth and Wolverine having a past, beyond Sabre's affinity for Logan's dogtags. Sabretooth is a representation of what Wolverine struggles not to be, a sadistic animal. Their relationship runs very deep, and its that relationship that defines Sabretooth as a character. Sabretooth as his own entity isn't nearly as interesting. And the list goes on and on, Deathstrike, Callisto (who isn't even referred to by name in the film anyway), Psylocke, Trask, Juggernaut. ESPECIALLY Juggernaut! All misused and underdeveloped for no justifiable reason. It's a pain to see some of our favorite characters reduced to monosyllabic cronies (if they even speak at all!). Granted, the re-imagining of William Stryker was pitch-perfect, IMO.

Didn't Jackman say he would have liked Ratner to direct?

I don't think any of his scripts have been rejected, just that he's been going back and retooling it for the next draft.

Agreed.

I usually don't care about reviews, but if this movie gets bad reviews then I wont waste my money on it. I won't give FOX more money to ruin my favorite superheroes.

To hell with Fox. Watch the S3 teaser trailer.

Raimi is about to do it again! Give the fans what we want, a REAL comicbook movie. Not a half-hearted attempt or some ego driven version of our beloved characters.

Please God, let Raimi bring another Marvel comic to life in the near future....him or Jackson that is.

S3 in 07 is the real deal.

SHH has updated the story - the original article they quoted has now removed any mention of a 2007 release date. Could've been a mistake on the reporter's part. So Wolverine may be slated for a 2008 release after all, and this is much ado about nothing.
