Well, if you read in the screenwriting thread, some friends and I are trying to make movies very soon... Well, fortunately as hell for us, my friend's mother decided to give him $2000 to get any camera(s) he wants. Long story short, neither of us have any experience, really, with cameras, and would like the help of the more savvy users in picking one that we could either get for around $2000, or one we could get for a lot cheaper, and perhaps purchase multiple of.

There's this site I go to often that has a bunch of indie filmmakers on it, maybe someone there can answer your question:

I have a Canon Vixia HF20. It's great. The HD is beautiful. AND, it's only about $800.

A friend of mine owned a Canon XL2 and it was simply beautiful.

Get your hands on a Sony EX3...
They are sweet as!! not sure what the price is in your world, they are relatively expensive, but beautiful to work with.
if not, go for a EX1.. less features, but still full HD, and also a treat to work with!

I'm currently using a Panasonic DVX100B.
