I have a nasty habit of buying movies before I see them. A good percentage of the time it bites me in the ass. Here's the mistakes I've made:
King Kong (Peter Jackson's)
AVP:R
Narnia: TLTWATW
Van Helsing
Underworld
Vanilla Sky (It was mis marked at K-Mart for $5 when it first came out)
White Noise
The Ring 2
Hulk
Terminator 3
Jeepers Creepers 2

I know there's more but all of my dvds are are boxed up as I bought my first house and am in the midst of moving.

My collection lives on blind buys and actually I haven't been burned much by it yet. I usually do a lot of research on a film that I haven't seen yet. I find it more fun collecting DVD's that way, but a lot of my DVD's are also movies I've seen before buying. Pretty much all my foreign films are blind buys.

A few years ago a store by work would sell DVDs with rebates that made them dirt cheap (like $5-10 the day they came out) bought a few movies blindly at that time, most of them I've only watched once. Didn't think the were too bad, just not movies I felt like I needed to see again. Matchstick Men and Hulk instantly spring to mind.

Vanilla Sky get a lot of hate but I love it.

Sometimes I do a blind buy and I've regretted them. I think I did it with the 40 Year Virgin. Not as funny as it should've been (I like the other Apatow movies though)

The Mist was my most recent blind buy, but I actually enjoyed the movie immensely. I haven't even touched the special features (including the whole film in black and white) yet.

I make blind purchases a lot, but I'm usually happy with them (Gone Baby Gone, The Departed).

The only movie in recent memory that I've bought and not really liked at all was We Own the Night.

Vanilla Sky is my top 5 most 'wtf' movies of all time.

it's a great sci-fi movie, and that's why I liked it. it's different.

Vanilla Sky is very underated, it's a great film. Better than the original too in my opinion.

I've done a few blind buys, comes when I visit Borders or Hollywood Video. I just can't resist a sale, especially if it's something I've been wanting to see or I have seen it and I've been wanting it.

all the crappy movies i have are placed away from my main collection and put in the corner so one day I could burn them.

Seriously, I don't understand why would you buy a movie you haven't seen?

Well why would you go the theater and see a movie you never seen? It's same thing except you get to keep the movie. Plus, I buy something completely blind, I research movies before I buy them to make sure there's a good chance I will like it.

When I first bought a dvd player, i also bought "Dude, Where's my Car?" DVD without seeing the movie first. At the time, I watched it alot and enjoyed it, but I haven't seen that DVD in a long time.

I tend to buy films that have good reputations from critics...as sad as that sounds...I'm more likely to enjoy the film if it is well recieved. :)

I just bought Diary of the Dead and I loved the hell out of it.

buying blind is a bad idea..(The Cube sequels *sigh*) But sometimes its a blessing in disguise for me.Man Bites Dog was a blind buy.

I do this all the time, I bought There Will Be Blood, and I'm Not There not too long ago and loved them both. But about a month ago I bought Jersey Girl hoping for good things cause it was a Kevin Smith movie, but boy was I wrong.

I bought Layer Cake without having seen it. The film itself was good (I think) but the problem is that I found the plot difficult to following, mostly because I had a hard time understanding some of the heavier English accents in the film.

Layer Cake was a blind buy for me too and I love that film. Most of my blind buys are either foreign films or movies that are included in great deals at best Buy.

Not to say I always strike out, The Departed, Gone Baby Gone, both Kill Bill movies, Sin City, Hellboy, to name a few. Some of those were educated blind buys, as I heard they were awesome, or directed by Tarantino.

I think what you need is better judgment when it comes to blind buying. You should have known that some of them were ugly movies to buy.

:o

My last blind buys was Alien and Aliens. I was not disappointed.

My last blind buy was the French horror film "Inside." Such a fantastic movie with great gore and effects. Very intense film. Anybody who is a fan of crazy, gory violence, check it out.
