I think it could be interesting to differ from Thanos comparisons by doing a phenomenal makeup application for Darkseid. I know CGI could work. What do you guys think? I'm thinking if they decided to do a cameo/end of credits type scene they'd have to choose.

While I really don't think Darkseid will be in Batman v Superman, I'd think they would probably be better off using CGI and mocap. Darkseid is physically gargantuan, has enough powers where all his fight scenes will consist of a lot of CGI anyway, and I just don't think any practical makeup could really do that well. It would need to be really good CGI, but it could turn out pretty awesome if done well.

I say practical... Damn these are the moments I wish Stan Winston was still alive. :((

I also don't think the Dread Lord Of Apokalips is in BvS. Seriously... We'd have heard about that role being cast by now.

However, in general put me down for CGI/Motion Capture. It's just too versatile a tool these days. We have more than enough evidence at how far we've come these days, from the new APES films to the PIRATES films to Snyder himself creating entire CGI clothing and armor. Even films that people are going "See... SEE... Practical is so much better.... look at FURY ROAD" actually contain an enormous amount of CGI in order to bring the director's visions to life.

Practical make up actually turns out to be impractical for today's big budget blockbuster films, in comparison to CGI/Mocap. You can cast ANYONE for these parts using Mocap and the actors also have greater physical freedom of movement with little to nothing restricting their performance. You can integrate the character more easily with the rest of the remaining SFX which WILL be CGI. You don't have to slow production down and thus add to the budget by having to take time out from shooting for reasons ranging from make up touch ups, overheating, bathroom breaks ect. Those all are inconsequential with Mocap, but big considerations with make up.

Sorry, but we reached a tipping point on this some time ago. This really is starting to get silly that some moviegoers keep bringing this idea up in this context. Practical makeup still has a place in film, sure, but it's less likely to be used in the wanna be mega block busters.

Not necessarily true considering the secrecy around this project.

I hope there's not a post-credit scene at all. I'm not a big fan of them.

We would've heard something. There's not been one rumour ,heck not even from the cesspool that is IMDB. where someone claims they're Zack Snyders' dog handler.

Depends on what we see. If it's just his face, makeup should suffice. If they're going for something more dynamic, they should use both.

If they put Darkseid in a post-credit scene I can't wait for the Avengers/Thanos comparisons...

I think the easiest way to do a Darkseid cameo at this stage is to just show a boom tube opening up and Darkseid's outline appearing. Save his actual reveal for later.

if they do show him at all.....a mix of both would probably be the best route. Make up on an actor mixed with touch ups from CGI. Though I agree with CK, if they do it just have a BOOM tube opening up somewhere, either on Earth, the Moon, some random place in space, and have Desaad or Granny Goodness or Mr. Miracle & Big Barda (or all of them) come out and then just the outline of Darkseid coming with them saying something along the lines of "Our Dark Lord approaches....all hail...." then cut off and leave it there :D

if you insist on a post credit scene then have shot of Apokolips with a dark figure in the shadows.

or have Green Lantern debut and tell them there's an Apokolips coming. :sly:

DC won't be doing post-credit scenes, mark my words.

And I'll be the one to say mix of practical and CGI. CGI mostly for the giant build and keep the face mostly practical, as it usually looks more natural. Cast Javier Bardem as Darkseid and it would be perfect.

If done well, there is still something about practical makeup that can be better than CGI.

Or Ron Perlman...

Hmm... I could see it, though I don't know if Perlman is able to carry such intensity like Bardem. Admittedly, I haven't seen much of his work.

He would make a nice Deathstroke though.

Yup. That's why I say, make the face with practical makeup, CGI the eyes at most.

I would add that even if practical would look good, I'd say 99% chance Darkseid is done in CG. :o

Or Michael Ironside. :awesome:

If they reached out to him, I'd be for it. I still hear his voice when reading the books.

I'm basing it off of what I've seen in Sons of Anarchy. Perlman can be pretty intense, and his voice would work. Plus if they go the practical makeup route, he might be for it since he's done it before when he played Hellboy.

That would be great. I'd love to see the glowing red eyes.

Never watched that series, so I'll take your word for it. And somehow, I forgot about Hellboy completely.

So do I. there haven't been too many other people who've voiced the character, but they all pale in comparison to Ironside.
