How secure are you when you're using the internet?

Are you giving out information without even realizing it?

More and more I am less likely to post private information on the net.

I don't really subscribe to Facebook, Myspace, Linked In et al, because I value my privacy.

If someone knows your date of Birth and your Mother's maiden name, with a bit of digging they can get access to your bank account. Did you know that?

So the more information you put out there about you and your family, the more likely your identity can be stolen.

Scared yet?

Future employers will be looking at your published postings to decide whether or not to hire (or fire) you.

Big Brother isn't watching you much, but the rest of the world can take a peak at your past... will they like what they see? When beauty is in the eye of the beholder, how beautiful do you think your posts have been?

Should you be worried?

Actually they need to know my social security number to get into my bank account.

Plus, with social networking, it really depends on how much you put into it. There's no information on my facebook account that detrimental to me.

And to add to what Parker Wayne stated, future employers cannot see the real names of messageboard members, therefore cannot tell which username is their current employee. (Unless you log in at work, of course.)

Instead of fearing the power of the internet, redmarvel, realize that many companies want to sell "fear the power of the internet" to people your age who are susceptible to such ideas.

Agreed with the two posts above me.
Just don't be stupid and 99% likely that you'll be fine.

By stupid I mean don't post in 4chan threads like "OMG 4CHAN TOTALLY BLOCKS OUT YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER, TRY IT! ***-***-****

Aside from using my debit card to purchase things on Amazon I don't divulge my private life anywhere else. I have a Facebook acount but I'm such a private person that I rarely post things on it.

I don't care much if hackers were to be stealing my passwords, programs, and other relevant info. What I hate is the mere fact that since I have knowledge that those things exist, the mere thought of that is extremely debilitating to the creative process.

I am so paranoid about it that I've thought of buying a separate computer with no internet for just those things. But, the paranoia stops me again because of things such as wireless connections.

Bottom line - those people are counterproductive to growth and advancement AND they are against anyone whom any finished works of mine, or things related to finished works of mine, would find their way to.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, computer 'hackers' and thieves of identity and other such thing are the equivalent of pick-pockets. They're even below real pick pockets because at least the real pick pockets have the cahones to put their necks on the line.

DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE TEXT THAT IS COMIN' OUTTA MY FINGERS!?!?!

If someone keeps hamstringin' ya then you're eventually going to guard only your hamstring. MEANING: Most of us are on the internet because someone(s) is using it as a weapon against us.

How about, head for a hamstring day?:jedi

i think if someone stole my identity they might actually be doing me a favor.
i have bad credit, i'm beyond broke and have a decent amount of debt. if they want to steal that, then by all means

You had no choice but to incur bad credit. People were making plans with your money before you even had it. Your choices were:

A) At least do something you think you want to with the money you earned
B) Have it be taken and you get nothing from it

This is why cold, harsh vengeance is the only option. This is why I must wish a thousand torturous deaths upon all. This is why, I'm not doing anything until the money, all of it, is given back due to incompetent leadership that rewards weakness, cowardice, and ignorance. That, or they give me a human sacrifice with zero repercussions.

......Is that you Bum?

......Is that you Bum?

Bum? I have worked and haven't quit any of it for I went through it... I'm already done, dumb-ass. I'm simply waiting for what is owed back due to it being 'pick-pocketed' from me when I wasn't looking.

Of course, being a bum is probably better than being someone else's play-toy.

Besides, someone tried running me down with a car. Why would I associate with them any longer, let alone continue to work with these people? I escaped without injury because I AM QUICKER THAN EACH ONE OF THEM AND I CAN BEAT EACH ONE OF THEM.

I've got no choice, they're trying to kill me.

Hell, they try and run me down and think the **** I got for getting through that is worth what the tried to do? NOT EVEN CLOSE, BUDDY!

The best way to prevent bad things from happening is to make your primary email password extremely secure. If someone gets access to your email they can basically get access to everything else.

There are plenty of people who use a really easy/dumb password for everything, and if one thing gets compromised they are boned.

Uh, I'm not calling you a Bum, you just post like this other poster, TheBumWhoWalks. I thought maybe he changed his name or something.

My mistake or whatevs. :BA

I've been thinking about this recently. I havent logged in to any of my pages and was wondering how to delete them. How do I close my My Space? seeing as how I havent been there in years I thought I better get rid of it.

Facebook, Linked In, Youtube, Google = Have the ability to monitor everything you do and everywhere you go...if you let them.

There are new algorithms that are built that use the GPS off your phone to track where you live, even what door you use to enter and exit the house, your visited destinations..a map is then made of 'hot-spots' and travel destinations, routes you normally take, etc, then they send that information to advertisers to compare that with data from other people.

With that information they have the ability to understand your life, and then could help advertisers put ads in places you go and routes you take. Frankly, there are no limits to what they can do with your data and almost impossible to find out exactly how it is used. Welcome to the information age.

Eh, small price to pay for the ability to play words with friends. :o

they'd get bored with my data. i pretty much go to: work. gym. home. repeat
