I don't live in Ireland but a few weeks ago I removed a spider from my basement and it was also 10cm across. One of the biggest we've had in the house

I think I saw some of those in SoCal, but it was after a couple of pitchers so I'm not sure. They were sleeping at the foot of my bed, so it mighta been my dogs.
