chiv·al·ry (shvl-r)
n. pl. chiv·al·ries
1. The medieval system, principles, and customs of knighthood.

2. The qualities idealized by knighthood, such as bravery, courtesy, honor, and gallantry toward women.
(a) A manifestation of any of these qualities.
(b) A group of knights or gallant gentlemen.

Basically dealing with definition 2, do people still show bravery, courtesy, honor and gallantry?

It doesn't have to be.

I believe there are some rare and exceptional people that still try to practice chivalry. If even one person lives who tries to keep it's practices alive, then it is not dead.

One of my favourite things in these threads is waiting for someone to go:

"I'M still chivalrous. I still open doors for women and stuff!"

It's a larf.

It's not dead, but it should be. Equality should extend to all areas of life.

I'm gonna pull a redmarvel and state that I need an "other" option. Generally, it's dead in effectiveness, but not in practice. 30 and below generally won't bother, because most women in that age group are looking for the exact opposite when it comes to personality, because [thanks largely to the media] they are more worried about a hookup here and there, as opposed to a serious relationship. And then by the time they are ready to settle down with a chivalrious [sp?] nice guy, they've all either defected to being jerks, being gay, being gay jerks, or just no longer interested in you. I can't belive how often I've heard women say "You're the perfect man!" to a guy that she always comes crying to because her boyfriend is a dick and didn't remember their six-month anniversary, and then when she finally splits with him, she's more worried about the cute guy she met at the bar than the guy who's actually BEEN there.

I am still chivalrous because I open doors. For everyone! But to regain my neutral equilibrium I slam the second door in their face. Because everywhere I go has the first door, a little room claustrophobic people would be scared off and right in front is the second door.

Chivalry exists within us all, even the womenz.

I think many have forgotten how to use it but i do think it exist

Well, some factions of Feminism tried to kill it, but they can't completely eradicate it.

You'll see this when you hold a door open for a lady and she shoots you a nasty glare.
but for the most part, when I do that the chick smiles and thanks me.

Not dead, just diminished.

Yeah, Destiny's Child had a song about this.

Chivalry was replaced by feminism.

Frankly I would modify the official definition:

2. The qualities idealized by knighthood, such as bravery, courtesy, honor, and gallantry toward weaker people.

Then I could be declared chivalrous towards old folks.

We talk about what a woman wants in a man and call it chivalry.

Then we talk about what a man wants in a woman and call it chauvinism.

Very insightful, now get back in the ****ing kitchen!:cmad:

I was raised to be a gentleman. I open doors for people and such. I guess that's as close to knighthood as I will ever get.

Unless the Queen can be easily bribed.
