Is cracking your neck bad?

Cracking your neck is just popping bubbles that arise in the fluid between your joints. I've heard that the more you crack a joint, the more frequently bubbles collect and the bigger they get, leading to painful arthritis.

Of course, I have no proof of any of this, so long story short: I dunno.

Some people say it's good for you. (What I believe)
Some people say it will eventually cause arthritis. (Which actually makes sense)

Anyone got something realiably scientific?

I've read in a health magazine that cracking your joints actually keeps arthritis away:huh:

Its bad...you're cracking someting...I won't even get into the science of it.

Its bad.

Well...I've cracked my neck to the point I've gotten slightly dizzy.

Cracking is a habit of mine when I get bored.
I crack maybe 2 or 3 times a day.

Not too much, I guess.

I've heard the same thing, however it was in relation to cracking my knuckles. I would assume that it (the arthritis later on in life) applies to any joint that you crack.

It's good.....it's bad.

Does Knuckle Cracking Lead to Arthritis?

Not everybody's joints crack. Some people have a larger separation between the bones and some people can't relax enough to allow the bones to separate. If you can crack and your mom tells you, you're going to get arthritis, she's just yanking your chain. There is no scientific evidence that cracking your knuckles leads to arthritis. However, it can't be good to repeatedly push a joint beyond its normal physical range. Besides that, it's annoying. Cracking your knuckles can cause a decrease in your grip but unless you're signing any multi-million dollar contracts as a pitcher, it's not worth giving up. But it's still annoying.

There you go.

Only bad if you trap you spine and become quadraplegic :) I do it too much :(

They say its bad to crack your knuckles, because it thins the cartilage and may give you hand pain in the future if you do it repidially. The same may apply to your neck.
