I keep seeing articles about how the cancellation of shows like Sense8 and The Get Down mean end times are near.

What are your thoughts on this?

I think that's crazy! I've never even heard of either of these shows, Netflix has a lot of other quality content and it seems to get better every year.

uh...I figured there was going to be something more substantive to Netflix's demise.

Cancellation of 2 shows does not qualify.

All those cancelled shows just happened to be their most expensive (The Get Down,Marco Polo,Sense8) just Netflix trying to save a buck.

Every network has its ups and downs. Netflix has now outperformed major networks. As long as Netflix keeps putting out stuff like Daredevil, Stranger Things, and House of Cards and other critically acclaimed and popular shows it can perpetuate itself indefinitely.

I do think they could be a bit more ambitious with their own movies though.

It's a bit insane to think that a few shows will sink something as big as Netflix. Just look at how many shows NBC cancels every year.

Not sure.

Sometimes I wonder if Netflix has enough money that they seem to constantly spend.

Then again, I figure if Netflix went under, someone would buy the brand name or try to do something with the service.

No. It has never been stronger, and it is just getting stronger.

I would argue that it was stronger before Iron Fist.
They have The Defenders coming up. Season 3 of Daredevil, season 2 of Jessica Jones, season 2 of Luke Cage, multiple seasons of Orange is the New Black, season 2 of Stranger Things, and plenty more coming.

Is Netflix in trouble financially?

I get that Sens8 had its fans and it's a rough deal that it didn't get a final season, but this is a massive over exaggeration.

The last two post summed it up perfectly. :funny:

Sense8 gets cancelled and thousands of viewers lose their ****ing minds. Jeeze. You'd think Netflix executed Ghandi.

If you're going to spend more on a season than HBO do on Game of Thrones, you'd have to expect a certain level of viewership. Unfortunately Get Down, Marco Polo and Sense8 didn't have that. I imagine they'll make it up to the Wachowskis with an original movie, or another series pitch.

The heck you on about? They're giving sums like $100m and $80m to the likes of Scorsese and and other big time directors to make and distribute their movies.

If anything, I would argue Netflix is doing better than its cable competitors (HBO, Showtime, Starz etc.) Besides, like, Game of Thrones, all of the trending buzzworthy shows these days are coming from Netflix: the Marvel shows, Orange is the New Black, Stranger Things was a massive breakout hit, House of Cards, Kimmy Schmidt, its getting original film content from A list actors like Brad Pitt and Will Smith AND this year Netflix has exclusive comedy specials from just about every A list comedian you can think of.

If you look up winning in the dictionary you will see the Netflix symbol. My only question is where the Hell are they getting all this spending money from?

A **** ton of subscribers. They have over 90 million subscribers and they have been gaining tens of millions of subscribers every year. And their revenue in 2016 was over $8 billion.

Netflix is like a giant snowball rolling down a snow hill the size of Everest. It's gonna take a lot to stop its momentum and progress.

They want to take the risks with their shows and the president of the company has publicly stated that the company has no problems taking risks with them and that inevitably some will get canceled but more will take their place, and with the quality of shows they have I'm excited for their future programming.

Yeah they cant renew everything, they're not the CW. ;)

Seriously though, I loved Sense8 and sad to see it go but if nobody's watching then it is what it is, they need to cut it especially if the show's expensive. They can allocate that budget to another show that needs it (coughcoughIronFistcoughcough)

If they kept those shows with the for lack of a better term low ratings and high budget then it would be the end times.
