I'm sorry if this has already been discussed, but after watching that trailer it just looked like it, we got a loki, a biker gang looking Thor (cool looking though) and having banner locked up. I know It's only a minute worh of footage, but its just a feeling I wondered if others had. And it's its not a complaint at all, those books have been the best thing to come from marvel in a decade, along with first volume of astonishing x men, also Whedons.

I don't think banner was locked up in the teaser that was leaked

i think it's more of an amalgamation of material marvel is using for their films. looking at what they have made so far you can't really say it comes from just one book or run. they take what seems like a good fit and go from their. they may like a story from this era and a costume from that era and so on. so the ultimate-esque thor may be a look they thought was cool for film. they still have the 616 mjolnir.

I think he's
taking inspiration from them with the looks. Especially with Thor's look!

From what I gather, Banner is forcibly "brought in" to work with the team. Not for his Hulk persona, but for his intellect. The film will def be heavily influenced by Ultimates

Other than the costume I doubt we'll get anything close to Ultimate Thor. I was so disappointed Marvel did the Ultimate Avengers cartoons so badly. I would love to see a proper adaptation of Ultimates 2.

If they had done Ultimates 1 faithfully, the cartoon would have been rated R. At least. Marvel Films don't do R.

From the way the previous Marvel films have been made, I think it's safe to say that the Avengers characters won't be sporting their Ultimate personalities. The Ultimate costume Designs though? Yeah, they do seem to be taking some of that. That doesn't bother me too much, I know some people hate the designs, but honestly, you could end up with a much more unfaithful version of the costumes then the Ultimate designs.

Agreed

I don't mind if there are elements from the Ultimates in the movie, but not too much. I never liked the Ultimates overall, it just seemed to me some of the worst writing (and quite often the art too) I've came across. But I'm not one to throw out everything since there was maybe an idea or two there that could work. Just as long as the characters and world are mostly 616 inspired and not the freaks we ended up with in Ultimates.

I agree. I enjoyed some ideas. The way they handled the Skrulls was pretty cool.

Mark Millar is a shock-and-awe writer, nothing more. He's at his best giving a character a 180-degree spin. Sometimes it doesn't work out, sometimes it does

Yeah, I've been hearing that a lot recently and it does ring true. It just reminds me of first picking up the Ultimates and being shocked at the casual psychological and physical abuse the so called 'good guys' would hand out to one another. I must have read one panel over again a few times because I couldn't believe someone could write that rubbish.

I dunno. Maybe that type of thing only works for his own creations like Kick Ass etc.

I dunno, i have a feeling about the portrayal of Thor, that the other characters around might treat him like a mad man from some asylum, like in the books, and it will be a good beat for the story/movie, because we the audience already know who he is, but watching the other guys thinking "who is that nut" until he brings the thunder would be great to see on screen, i dunno, i just got that vibe because he does look alot less god like, and more of a rough brute force from the trailer, but i hope that if they are going that way, they don't flip Widows persona and make her a traitor to the group.

But Thor doesn't claim to be some alpha and omega god. He explains that he's really just a scientifically advanced alien to Jane. If he does the same for someone like Banner and Stark then there will probably be less speculation. I think they'll see him as weird do to his way of speaking but probably not in an Ultimates(Guy is a loon way) and more like (Guy is foreign).

But hey one guy has a nuke in his chest, one guy is from the 1940's, and the other turns green.

Exactly.
Any way i'm just saying i'm definitly feeling an ultimate vibe from that trailer.

Definitely has an Ultimates vibe to it

As long as the characters retain their personas from the solo flicks that's fine

Usually I would agree but I was very impressed by some of the subtlety in his Ultimates work. His spins on some of the characters left me wanting more and then Loeb showed up and ran riot over all Millar's work. The idea of the super-soldier race, the importance of the Braddocks, the cult of Thor, Giant man's overcompensation etc were great ideas and legitimately modern in a globalised, secular, feminist world.

I loved The Ultimates but i doubt they will use many plot elements.

Ultimates worked for the way it brought the team together, so I don't mind the source material. Where I didn't like Ultimates was the look of Iron Man, and the look of Mjolnir (although funny they've changed it back to the classis Mjolnir for the comics). I also didn't like the Hulk being a cannibal, that was over the top. But the story of how they got together works, and I don't mind that at all.

Agree with the Hulk Cannibalism, but i am 100% that that plot element fro the ultimates won't carry on into film, although he might kill (like he did in TIH where he flattened those guys with the tanker things in the 1st hulk out) but i don't think that'll even happen.

Actually he's best doing character driven action stories with the editorial ensuring he doesn't go overboard.

These movies will likely be loosely based off materials sucha s Ultimates 1, Ultimates 2 and Ultimate Avengers which is essantially Ultimates 3 by Mark Millar.

They'll never go as political or as dark as the comics, because you don't wanna show Nick Fury as a evil manipulator, Koreans and Russians making super soldiers and super heroes replacing nukes, you might see Iron Men replacing nukes, but thats about it.

That would be awesome. I personally never got the avengers till Aillar envisioned them for me. I agree that he goes a little far with some things and he has too many pop references. But his ideas are always so fresh and just what the movies need to really infiltrate the cultural conversation. I'm tired of marvel movies being forgettable. Along with their books. That being said Whedon is no slouch himself. His work on Xmen was a perfect mix of both.

I've read one of Millars JLA books(the amazo one) and it was such a breath of fresh air. His character work, the plotting and conflicts and humor. He did that in one issue and with nothing(ala johns and his editorial say and summer event books all to sell hal jordan). Then I look at what DC does with their JLA without him and it's laughable. I think he just finds what makes a character work at their core and writes and an extreme version of that, flaws et all. His Steve Rogers was so legit. His ultimate thor story line was incredibly compelling. But we're past those possibilities with the film universe so I don't think detractors have anything to fear.

I'm still holding out out for the day Millar is on Superman. I do hope Whedon looks to the millar books for some inspiration though, anything's better than 90's avengers imo...except may what Bendis has been doing.

I would like to see some stuff from from both but thor new look will take time to get use to .

I don't think Whedon isgoing to adapt any of the Mark Millar Ultimate stories into film. We may see small elements, but the characters from the individual movies we've seen thus far are not like their Ultimate comics counterparts in the least.

For that, I thank Marvel!!!
