So I'm gathering as much Kirby stuff I can find because I'm trying to learn as much as I can from it. My question however is can you guys mention some artists that work within the Kirby style? I'm not talking Bruce Timm here (though I love love love is work), I'm talking a guy like Tom Scioli who did Godland. So are there any suggestions?

No problem. Ladronn's most Kirbyesque work that I can recall off the top of my head was his run on Cable from the early '00s. I don't know if you're looking for just Kirby-style pencils or other types of art, but I personally think Ladronn's best work was on an Inhumans mini-series he painted. It looks like a combination of Kirby and Moebius' styles.

Steve Rude has done a bunch of stuff, but I'm mostly familiar with his art from pictures I've seen online. I do have a Superman/Hulk story he painted, which looks great. He also did a mini-series called Children of the Atom (I think) about the X-Men in their early days.

Steranko is not Kirby influenced. Tom Scioli, on the other hand, is:

You should check out Donatello #1 in the old Mirage TMNT series. In that book, Don gets transported to another dimension with an artist aptly named, Kirby. This dimension is filled with all of Kirby's art work come to life. As a result, TMNT artists Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird tried to emulate Jack Kirby's art style when drawing the things in the alternate "Kirby" dimension. There's a forward praising Kirby and the issue is also dedicated to him. You can read the entire issue at www.ninjaturtles.com

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Scioli I was into for a while now from Godland and Freedom Force. And no, Steranko may be awesome but he's no Kirby.

I can see a little bit of possibly Kirby influence in Steranko's figures, but he's completely different otherwise.

Have you checked out any Ladronn or Rude art yet, CS? If so, is that what you're looking for?

Kirby influenced a lot of people in different ways. That's why he's the King and Steranko's not. :oldrazz:

Yeah dude, it's some cool stuff. I'll have to go pick up their books but from what I've seen online it's cool.

To the guy who's in love with Steranko. Look man, I know his art and it's not what I'm into. Granted it's good but not my thing.

Eric Wight seems to have some Kirby in him.

Besides, Steranko is an escape artist and magician or he was, before he started illustrating (maybe even while).

If he were an artist today, he'd probably put his skills to use escaping deadlines. Hiyo! :D

Where's Steranko when you need him? To Hell with this new generation of pencilers. They must not have the fire under their asses that people like the illustrators of old did. THEY had the Depression Era.
