James Franco Aquires the Rights to "The Disaster Artist"

I got you all beat. No release date for Bulgaria at all... :(

I am annoyed that this doesn't open till next weekend around here.

I'm not getting it until next week either. Three Billboards will tide me over.

But look what came out!

About to see it in Chicago.

Honestly, I'm a little glad I have to wait an extra week. I have a ton of work this weekend and don't need that temptation. One more week is all I can handle, though :woot:

It may not get an Oscar for best actor or best picture, but it'll get it for something, whether best director or best score. This is genuinely the funniest ****ing movie I have seen this past year, yet it has some weird heart to it. The 90s soundtrack makes it even more hilarious.

Just got my tickets for tomorrow night.

My theater isn't getting it this week whhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I should be seeing it either Friday or Saturday.

Saw this a couple of hours ago. It's exactly what we wanted it to be. Really excellent movie. Franco has done so well here. You laugh at him, you're weirded out by him, you pity him, you freakin' celebrate him.

Franco did an amazing job, I think he really captured the essence of Tommy. He certainly got the laugh down perfectly. Any fan of The Room will certainly enjoy this.

Franco and Tommy were both on Howard Stern together this week. ****ing awesome and hilarious interview.

The football scene is classic.

Saw it. My God was it a delight.

For anyone who's read the book, does the shooting of the sex scene play out as it does in the movie? If so, I really hope Tommy made amends to that actress. I was surprised by how much I kind of hated him in that moment.

It does for the most part, obviously the book goes in a bit deeper. There's a lot of moments from the book they cut due to time like the whole part about the original actor who played Mark.

Of note, A24 jumped James Franco’s The Disaster Artist from 19 locations to 840 today. The James Franco-directed-and-starring pic is now projected to make a $2.4M Friday and $6M for the weekend in 5th place. Ten-day tally for this biopic satire, which is also a New Line/Good Universe co-production, is $7.6M.

Very good word of mouth for the Franco film at a 66% definite recommend. ComScore/Screen Engine’s PostTrak reports an 81% overall positive score/four stars with 66% over 25 and 60% men. Forty-nine percent of the audience came because they’re familiar with The Room (subject matter/plot) while 41% bought tickets because it’s a comedy and 35% because of the ensemble cast which includes Franco, brother Dave Franco, his wife and James’ sister-in-law Alison Brie, Seth Rogen, Ari Graynor, Zac Efron, Jacki Weaver, Josh Hutcherson, the list goes on

Also, there was a guy dressed up as Tommy at my screening. White cargo pants, black blazer, black wig.

My ramblings...

Loved it. Much like Ed Wood and Man on the Moon, The Disaster Artist continues that comedy/drama bio pic tradition about very eccentric filmmakers and actors. As an obvious fan of The Room and a big fan of the book that this is based on... The movies does a great job on showing the behind the scenes of the one of the best worst movies of all time. What makes it great is they don't make it as joke or something where Franco and the gang just ad lib the entire movie. They make a conscious effort into giving Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero depth and focus on their relationship as partners in making this movie. I thought James Franco was the perfect person to play Tommy. While at first you can tell it's Franco putting on an act, you forget about that because the story is that damn interesting. The whole cast and cameos were also good. Because this is a movie, they can only fit so much without losing it's focus. I don't want to be that guy, but the book goes in way more in depth about the making of The Room and ugly side of Hollywood. Despite that, I'd say this movie does go above and beyond way more than what was originally expected when this movie was first announced. Also if you're watching the movie and are a fan of The Room, you need to stick around to the very end for a very special extra credit scene.
9.5/10

You guys need to see the end credits scene, it was amazing.

Neither of my local theaters got it, so a couple of my friends and I are driving a little further away to the closest screening. It's not awful, but it's weird that they both didn't pick it up this weekend. (I'm pretty sure it was originally scheduled to, too, and then disappeared.
