In front of a full house of hardcore Potter fans at Carnegie Hall in New York, Rowling, sitting on the stage on a red velvet and carved wood throne, read from her seventh and final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," then took questions. One fan asked whether Albus Dumbledore, the head of the famed Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft, had ever loved anyone. Rowling smiled. "Dumbledore is gay, actually," replied Rowling as the audience errupted in surprise. She added that, in her mind, Dumbledore had an unrequited love affair with Gellert Grindelwald, Voldemort's predecessor who appears in the seventh book. After several minutes of prolonged shouting and clapping from astonshed fans, Rowling added. "I would have told you earlier if I knew it would make you so happy."

Surprised this hasn't been posted yet, I did a search.

Would have gotten more notice had she said this years before.

This is just a desperate attempt to stay in the spotlight. She knows she's finished now that the last book has come out, so she's going to do anything she can to keep people talking about her.

What's that I hear? Ah yes, its far right Christians and slash writers heads exploding all at once.

:whatever: :o I could really care less. It really doesn't even impact the story.

Interesting. This is the last time I come this thread, because I have yet to read the books, & I am sure this will become a mine field of spoilers.

Wow, I hope you're not serious.:whatever:

so.......wut did dumbledore and harry do in those ''delated'' scenes?....:o

Psh...everybody's gay. Indiana Jones was secretly bisexual. Yoda was gay. I could go on revealing the real truth...

Yes, I am. I'm not trying to say that she's not a good writer, the simple fact of the matter is that the follow up project is never as good as the first, and there is no way she's going to keep most of her fanbase once they see that. She knows this, so she's trying to ride out the fame she has now while she still has it, even if it means making very public, very controversial statements.

Yeah because she'll be out of the spotlight when Half Blood Prince comes out, then the Deathly Hollows, then her Harry Potter Encyclopedia thing, etc. :whatever:

I mean, I can understand if she just went around saying it to get some more of the spotlight; which isn't the case. She was asked by a fan if Dumbledore had a love interest at any point and she answered honestly.

The movies don't case as much of a stir as the books, and while I don't know what the Harry Potter Encyclopedia is exactly, I'll bet it's not going to gain her as much attention.

I understand the context, but I wonder how far ahead that was thought of.

And that's the way to do it? Read my next book because Dumbledore is gay?

There's no new project coming anytime soon for her, she's doing a big Q&A book tour and readings from the new Harry Potter book, which has already sold gazillions of books. She's been giving extensive information about all of the characters from the series from her own notes...what everyone's lives have been like years past book 7.

Plus she's said in all of the interviews she's done that there will never be anything again in her career like Harry Potter. She's not exactly in a panic that her career can only go downhill from here...that's ridiculous. The books are already starting to be read by a second generation of kids, and have pretty much earned their place in literary history for her to be worried about her reputation.

She does not drop random things like this because she's starved for attention. That's just not JK Rowling.

well its not like the fan fic guys hadnt already guessed dumbledore/grindlewald.
