Joe Cornish's The Kid who would be King

I've actually been wondering if he had any films lined up after thinking about Attack the Block the other day.

Cast includes Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible franchise), Sir Patrick Stewart (X-Men franchise), Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Misfits/Utopia) and Genevieve O'Reilly (Young Mon Mothma in the Star Wars films).

On a unrelated note here is a young Joe Cornish dancing to GROOVE IS IN THE HEART with his teenage buddies Adam Buxton and Louis Theroux.

Cornish and Louis's cousin Justin both ended up writing Marvel movies. Cornish on Ant-Man and Justin Theroux on Iron Man 2.

That makes sense. I saw the trailer before Goosebumps and was like, this is a thing?

Looks entertaining enough.

It's got Rebecca Ferguson and Sir Patrick Stewart in it. I'd check it out just for those two alone. The fact that it's made by the guy who did Attack the Block and looks genuinely kind of fun, are just nice bonuses.

I dunno, kind of looks okay. Somehow I'm a little hit-or-miss on that Wright/Cornish tone - love Shaun & Hot Fuzz, and Attack The Block was fun conceptually, but some of this felt a little on-the-nose to me.

At least you can actually understand the lead characters though, heh, Attack The Block was a subtitled necessity for me.

I love Attack the Block so will definitely check this out. Does this sort of look like a movie Disney would've made in the 1990s? Yes, but I will still see it.

Sir Patrick Stewart seems to be playing the older true form of Merlin, and he's wearing a Led Zeppelin shirt...that's not something I wanted, but now that I've seen it I definitely want it. I'll check this out.

This might end up being the first reinvention of the Arthur legend that's actually good.

This looks great! What a wonderful idea and it looks like it could a great kids movie.

Looks like a cute idea. Interesting new take on Merlin.

If Arthur came back now what would happen to the current royal family?

87% all critics and 80% top critics score on rotten tomatoes.

Can't wait. I LOVE 'Attack The Block' and knew this was going to similarly kick ass.

Huh, how about that. **** wasn't even on my radar.

I'm actually looking forward to this. This reminds me of 80s movies where kids were actually the protagonists and adults weren't really around. The poster even looks like it could have come from the 80s.

Hopefully he'd fly across the pond on his dragon and challenge Donald Trump to one on one combat.

Saw it. Definitely reminded me of the kind of kids movies you watch in the 80s. No one is using cellphones or social media. It’s just 4 kids on an adventure.

Performances are good but I thought the characters were underwritten. There’s some minor conflict between the four leads but gets resolved fairly quickly. Outside of Alex, the other three don’t really get a moment to shine in the final battle.

Was also disappointed Rebecca Ferguson was probably in this 15 minutes max.

This had no right being as good as it was. Lots of fun

Liked it a lot and my dad (who typically doesn’t like family films) did too. I say what I loved though was how it tackled Brexit from the kid’s point of view.

I think - though I could be wrong - that this was the first general (non political or historical movie) that tackled Brexit head on.

I'd say this is one of my favorite interviews (a kid interviews Joe Cornish) :
