A source at John Landis’ Burke and Hare film shoot informed me that due to The Wolfman’s poor performance, the Captain American film (set to be released 2011 according to imdb) has been pushed back. Considering a look at boxofficemojo.com reveals the $150 million dollar werewolf flick has grossed under $100 million worldwide, this doesn’t seem too unlikely. The delay in shooting could indicate a change in directors.
Can’t say I’m too disappointed. Johnston directed Jurassic Park III and The Wolfman, both of which weren’t very impressive.

I doubt the film is shleved so what wolfman didnt do as well as universal expected. This is marvel studios and they want cap and we are already still casting and all that. So i doubt that has anything to do for cap.

Johnson in another interview said he only got 3 weeks of prep work for Wolfman, he has 30 for Captain America.

I don't believe it just because of how far into pre-production they are, and how this will really mess up Marvel studios plans for the next few years of movies.

If they replace him it'll just turn into the mess that ruined the Wolfman.

This is horsepuckey.

Well, they've got similar schedule to the Incredible Hulk. Only 12 months for filming and post-production and I remember their problems with trailers...

Also how is a crewmember of Burke and Hare a relible source?

If Marvel felt this was possible, they wouldn't have begun looking at auditions for Cap, nor holding actors for 30 days.

I call BS.

yea totally and that audio link was posted yesterday on that link in the news thread. So i am sure he is still on board and with prep moving to london next week, and casting on going this week for steve if he was to be dumped it wouldnt make any dam sense. As for cap's production time and release. There is more then a enough time for filming and post work. Filming will be from late june so technically july-oct likely, and then from oct-release will be post production, reshoots, and plently of time for trailers and all that.

I was JUST getting ready to post that! Thanks Twitter

Yep, I knew it.

The source had barely any credibility and it was just making a rumor out of something fans were already speculating.

As I said earlier, Marvel and Joe Johnson put so much into Captain America. Everything about the up-coming Cap movie sounds amazing. Johsonson had 30 weeks to prep Cap. Wolfman really can only be looked at so much as a period piece when comparing Cap and Wolfman. I warmed up to Johnson and trust him now.

I have faith in Johnston just because Marvel picked him. Marvel doesn't go for the obvious big name choices but instead go for the best people for the job.

Them getting rid of Joe just because of Wolfman wouldn't even make sense for me, especially at this point. "Gee, we found something in him no other director had that makes him perfect for Cap despite his suspect filmography but his last movie underperformed. Better get rid of him."

I don't believe Marvel would do that anyway. They would look at past performances as a whole and assist the director but not wipe him out for one films bad performance. They obviously liked his pitch for Captain America

Johnson said in an interview that period flicks were his passion. Look at Rocketter and October Sky. Wonderful, brilliant movies.

I'd say it's too late now to switch directors even though I'd like a more faithful and less ashamed take and Wolfman was a disappointment.

well kuro we dont really know how cap will turn out. For all we know the film could be a great cap film and treats the character in the right fashion. I was glad none of the known trades were talking about this rumor. And i am glad a few places like chud/ign/shh here have gotten word from marvel saying its BS. Hopefully it will stay BS. Cant wait to see where things go.

just to throw out there the info on the HYPE front page addresses the production not being stalled it said nothing about Johnston's status.

I just hope this isn't the beginning of more rumblings... we all remember SM4. "Holiday break folks... be back in two weeks..." Right...

yea the whole spidey 4 thing could be a cause to worry. But i do hope things dont fall apart cause it would just mess up all the plans in motion and all that. Plus with all the news with cap this week and all that it would be silly if it fell apart now.

well IMO the wolfman was a magnificent remake. i doubt they will postpone this, if they do the fanboys will scream. the avengers must stay on track for the release date.
