Sriram Das and Blumhouse Productions have brought on horror king John Carpenter to direct a film adaptation of John Marks' 2008 novel Fangland.

The project has been in development for two-time Oscar-winner Hilary Swank to star as Evangeline Harker, a producer of a TV news magazine eerily similar to "60 Minutes."

In the book, Harker is an employee of the legendary TV news magazine "The Hour." Sent on assignment to Transylvania, she delivers more than a story when mysterious e-mails, coffins, and a creepy guy named Torgu descend on the New York office.

Swank fans will recall her early role in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and it marks a return as well for Carpenter, director of Halloween, The Fog, Vampires, and Stephen King's Christine, coming after his first film in nearly a decade, this summer's forthcoming The Ward.

Sounds like it could be a cool movie. I'm a fan of Carpenter's work and will definitely be seeing this.

I like the concept, could be fun if Carpenter finds his A game.

Wish I could say I'm excited, but John has not made anything worth a damn in years.

Crossing my fingers that Carpenter will return to good form with this one.

What happened to that rumoured movie that he was supposed to make about that prison riot where that inmate is trying to protect some kid who's the son of someone important. Can't remember the name.

Is Hilary Swank still rumored to be attached? Because she's been attached to the project for a long time.

Speaking of The Ward... why hasn't there been a single piece of footage released? Not even a teaser trailer!

Same goes for Wes Craven's new film.

I think tone will be vital with this movie. I can envision something that has just the slightest touch of camp about it. I'm thinking Drag Me To Hell-esque. It'll be interesting to see how far this film goes, Carpenter is practically the laziest filmmaker in Hollywood.

I really hope Carpenter puts a good effort into this one. It'd be great to seem him return with something great. However, while I adore True Blood, I'm starting to burn out on this whole vampie fad. I mean we just had Daybreakers, True Blood is coming back (yay!!!), we have (groan) two, possibly three if split, Twilight movies left, theres that Vampie Diaries show I've never watched, and Underworld finished up its run not long ago. Carpenter really has to pull off something nice for me to care about this.

Well, I won't say anything until I've seen The Ward.
