John Carter : A Princess of Mars

It feels like its the Avatar of next year. The visuals are awesome and its looks like a really ride of a movie. But the characters look boring and the story seems like not the most original. And it will end up alot like Avatar I think. The box-office will be huge, and the reviews will be pretty good and not amazing. It will have its die hard lovers, and its haters. Batman fans most likely.

yes because its that simple to make a lot of money at the BO. lets take a look at this summer. how many movies did good? and how much did Tron make? it underperformed in the US.

so this movie huge? lets whait and see.

It certainly looks interesting. Though I think they're taking the "Mars has two moons" a little too literally. Still, it's obviously nothing like the real Mars.

And this is only a taste. With people complaining that's it's all desert (I'll admit it wish there were more matte paintings in the Utah backdrop , there's a floating city and seemingly streampunk appeal.

I of course recommend reading them, because I've been a fan of them for decades. The chance you will always take if you read any novel that a movie is being made of, is making the comparisons of what was on the page and what is on the screen.

I'm gonna pick them up. Seems like a good adventure story. Plus it will tide me over til the movie comes out.

I understand the concept "life on Mars" and that's fine. But presumably the moons of Mars would still be the same size in proportion to the planet. Artistic license I guess.

And this is only a taste. With people complaining that's it's all desert (I'll admit it wish there were more matte paintings in the Utah backdrop , there's a floating city and seemingly streampunk appeal.

Sounds fun. I wasn't sure what was supposed to be Earth and what was supposed to be Mars. But it'll probably be cleared in the full trailer.

If you belong to the Science Fiction Book Club, they have a good deal where they have put 3 to 4 books into one volume...so the 11 book series is in around 4 Hard Backs with them.

Nah. It feels too much like someone is cos-playing Prince of Persia in an old western. Mars doesn't look otherworldly. It looks like they plopped some cgi sets down in a US desert.

I agree that Mars needs to be more exotic like those old John Carter art.

Disney is playing it save with the desert. it gives the general public a location that they know and at the same time it brings the budget down sine they dont have to create expensive complex CGI enviorments

It looks a little cheapy (didn't like the looks of that green Alien) but dammit if that wasn't an engaging little teaser.

Hesitations are abound but I kinda really enjoyed that trailer.
