They know they have to step their game up due to Avatar, like they said.

An interview with James Purefoy who plays Kantos Kan...

T: On to bigger, better things… How is John Carter Of Mars going?

P: It’s a great project. Huge. There aren’t many bona fide geniuses working in our industry but Andrew Stanton is one of them… Wall-E and Finding Nemo are extraordinary. If you only look at him in terms of his storytelling skills, that’s enough – and on top of that, look at the beauty, the soul, the heart he puts into those films. It’s staggering what he achieves. Funnily enough, I don’t have much to do in the first film. I’ve taken this basically because they’ve said, “Your part gets bigger and bigger as the films go on.”

T: You’re playing a Red Martian named Kantos Kan, right?

P: Yes, he’s a fighter pilot. He’s the captain of a massive naval airship so in the first film, I do a little bit of steering, a little bit of rescuing, **** like that. He’s quite flash, he has a few jokes – he’s like a naughty, sexy uncle. That’s the way I’ve been told to play it.

T:Are you wearing a costume or a mocap suit?

P: It’s not mocap with us [the Red Martians]. We’re humanoid, we’re in costumes, but there are other actors who are playing pure mocap characters. It’s hard to talk about it because I don’t really know what it’s going to look like. So much of it is in Andrew’s head and with his designers. We’re on a real set but it’s surrounded by green screen so there’s going to be stuff out there that I have no idea what it is but I know it will be extraordinary.

T:How would you describe your costume?

P: Armour. [Laughs] It looks cool. It’s very Dan Dare.

a smart director would show the actors how their characters will look and how the env will look. you know for reference? :o:whatever:

or he is lying to not spoil.

i mean really? you dont know how it will look? pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Well to be honest he did say that he knows how he will look because he's in make up .
And not everyone has sophisticated real time video reference a la Avatar :oldrazz:
He'll definately will have seen how scenes will look like ( artwork) but during the filming it's still "we'll this will represent a rock , that dot there represent a cliff "etc.

when you watch the making of fro mBeowulf you see that Zemeckis showed all the actors tons of concept art and all the detailed pictures from the actors and the sets.

some actors can't say much about their character design; the two favorite non-answers would be either they'll say they haven't seen it or they're praise it. Rest assured, they've seen the concept art. not a big deal.

Take Avatar for example. Cameron created low rez CG sets which , added with mo-cap data , could show you in real time wher the actors were going.
So it's not just a something that a director has in his head but he can show the actors how he is shooting a scene.

But again most mo-cap and/or live-action shooting is just something that exists in the directors head. This movie will have all sorts of fantasti creatures interacting with each other. The director will have shown how certain characters will move but when you have a three legged alien talking with you and you're on set with a guy in a mo-cap suit you really have no idea how something will turn out in the end :cwink:

i think its very important that the actors have at least an idea what he is looking at and what kind of creature is standing next to him.

at least something.

I want a first look at this thing so ****ing bad.... you guys have no idea.

I just finished watching the Antonio Sabato Jr version......now THAT is freeking bad.

It.....moved.....so.....slow.....like.....molasses.....in.....winter.

Even if this movie turned out lackluster, at least it'll be better than the Sabato version by default.

Two words: Andrew. Stanton.

I guess I'm confused...is this not a sequel to the first film?

you must be making a joke.

"Get Carter".

(BTW, 'Get Carter was a remake. you should have been asking if MIchael Caine was gonna come back)

Ya know, watching that POS Asylum movie made me think "I could do better."

No seriously, I went to college for English Lit, I've been in the martial arts since I was 5, and wouldn't shoot an obvious power station for an alien outpost. All I need is a few film classes and I'll be the best thing at asylum, god among ants!

Unfortunately, you must be talking about a different film. Sylvester Stallone was the star, not Michael Caine.

John Carter was the main character, no?

The Stallone movie GET CARTER (2000) was a remake of the Michael Caine movie GET CARTER (1971) where they both played the title character JACK Carter.

Thanks for the info. I feel like an idiot now.

So this movie is getting remade for a third time...hilarious. When will Hollywood realize that it's time for some original material?

I hear that Superman will now get a third reboot. What's the deal?
