Thanks for the info. I feel like an idiot now.

So this movie is getting remade for a third time...hilarious. When will Hollywood realize that it's time for some original material?

I hear that Superman will now get a third reboot. What's the deal?

Here's a suggestion.....stop posting in here, because I will ban you if you do it again.

Michael Giacchino scoring John Carter of Mars

Fresh off his recent OSCAR win for UP, composer extraordinaire Michael Giacchino's next project will be sci-fi epic JOHN CARTER OF MARS, according to MovieScore Magazine.

it's so great to see a guy like this making it big. For a while, the great composers have either getting older (John Williams) or the newer batch have been generic. But Giacchino is innovative, young, and old school.

Michael Giacchino should really just score everything.

If his John Carter score is even half as epic as his Star Trek score, this will be something special.

I'm glad there's a guy who's breaking through and has fanboy cred.

Giacchino!!!!!
Hell yeah!

The natural choice for Stanton.

I'm not complaining as I love a lot of Giacchino's work.

Been a fan of his work since Medal of Honor. He did some great stuff with a couple of games in that series.

I hope we get something on this soon. At the very least at SDCC, right?

Dude, seriously?

LOL

^Obviously he's doing this on purpose.

Whether or not he is doing this on purpose, you have to admit the whole thing is funny as hell.

If there will be something at COMIC-CON it'll probably be some art. Or if you're lucky probably some sort of proof-of-concept test.
I just checked the wiki page on Carter and filming is supposed to end in July 2010. I don't know think will show blue screen footage or incomplete stuff.

My guess is that Disney/PIXAR will follow Tron Legacy's promo-campaign . Considering that just like Tron Legacy , this is also one of Disney's big 3-d release ,they will probably want to show footage in all it's 3-d glory

As of now the release date it currently set for 2012. But don't be surprised if Disney also decides to release John Carter Of Mars somewhere in dec 2012 , should Tron Legacy become profitable.
It'll be interesting to see if WB decides to release Batman 3 in dec 2012.
John Carter Of Mars vs TDK sequel :woot:

Why does it take so long for the movies to come out after they are filmed? I mean, if they plan to go ahead with the trilogy of Mars, how long is it going to take to finish making the darn thing? :(

VFX . This is going to be a big VFX movie on the scale of Avatar - SW prequels.
Not to mentiion that it's going to be a 3-d release.

I wouldnt be surprised if there was John Carter footage at SDCC... they had a teaser for Tron Legacy at SDCC 2008 long before they even began principal photography.

I think they might hold back till the 2011 Comic Con. the closest thing could be some really rough footage at the 2010 show.

I agree.
I don't think that we will see footage of the actual cast this year. Filming ends in July 2010 , the same month SDCC starts.
If there is footage , it'll probably be some kind of Proof of concept stuff like they did with Tron Legacy. But i doubt we will see any form of real footage unless it's blue screen footage . I think chances of seeing either a proof of concept test and/or artwork is higher then footage.

Most likely Disney will focus more on Tron at SDCC ( for '09 they released the proof of concept test in ful l3-d) and like Octoberist said , we will probably see the first footage at SDCC of next year in 3-d

I finally broke down and started reading the John Carter trilogy. I am about halfway through the first book and it's actually quite entertaining. I don't awlays like to read stuff this old because of the wordy language but this was really quite tolerable. I can only hope that the movie will be just as fun to watch as it has been so far to read. :)

You know, for a second there, I thought this thread was about the crappy DTV version of this starring Antonio Sabato Jr. :o

There are actually 11 books by Burroughs about John Carter of Mars.

The Kindle version that I bought only has the first three in one volume. :) I might check out the rest if I like the whole trilogy.

Nice find, squeek :) Anyway, from Barsoomia...

Zodangon Air Crew Costume.

We’ve heard descriptions of Barsoomian battle wear as rather Roman. This seems to be the proof. Brought to our attention by the John Carter chat board on IMDB Kelly-Marie Kerr is listed as “.... Zodangan Air Crew” where she posted this photo. There was been talk of tattooing ( and there is a Tattooist in the cast ) and you can see some kind patterning on her. She’s not real ‘red’ like the books say, but post production ( is it called ‘timing’ ? ) work on the color may change that a fair bit.

Kelly-Marie is a background character so this probably wouldn’t be representative of the leads costuming or make up, but it does give us a peak at the films look.

You can see below that this kind of look has shown up before in John Favreau’s version the movie. David Krentz worked both on Favreau’s and Stanton’s version. - Jeff

LOL, she seems over dressed. It seemed to me that as I read the stories the various Martians ran around practically in the buff, wearing little jewled harnesses and the like. :p Her costume does seem much more realistic and practical than what was described in the books.

Darn, and I was so looking forward to seeing Taylor run around with no pants. :p
