John David Washington and Zendaya in Malcolm and Marie

I'll give it a look, but this is such an odd pairing.

Zendaya is grown but she still looks all of 17 and Denzel's son is like 35. But we'll see.

Her Disney Channel beginnings notwithstanding she's actually shown some chops acting wise.

Yeah Zendaya is fantastic on Euphoria and she’s good in the Spider-Man films. She does seem too young for JDW, but we’ll see.

Zendaya is awesome in this.

But every scene JDW tries to pet her let me shaking because I thaught thats disgusting. The age gap was huge for me. It didnt help that Zendaya is petite and JDW is more bulky.

I wonder why it didnt get attention in the award season.

I mean, older dudes with younger women have been a mainstay in hollywood for decades when it comes to casting. It can be weird but people rarely bat an eye over it.

It may not help she plays a 16/17 years old in the Spiderman movies, maybe that is why my mind has a problem with it.

The Spiderman stuff is just a fluff short term paycheck role for her. She clearly wants more and more variety in her acting career. People should get used to it.

Tom Holland seems to be doing to same.

I think Kev is just referring to being used to seeing her play teens rather than young adults.

Good acting showcase for both, especially Zendaya’s monologue at the end, but I found this terribly exhausting. One hour in and I was so ready to quit it.

Also, this is the best thing you’ll ever see today:

Zendaya and JDW were equally phenomenal in this, but it did feel way too long and stretched out at times, especially when it gets to the second half and honestly I just kind of wanted it to end aswell.

The itimate scenes between JDW and Zendaya weren't as creepy or awkward as I thought they would be either despite their age difference mostly because I bought into their relationship.

Great acting from Zendaya and JDW, but this would have worked much better as a short , relatively speaking, film.

I feel like it could have been a great, tight, 70 minute film . I feel like the first round of the fight was pretty much the strongest, and from that point on, it became diminishing returns.

I found myself scrolling my phone, and distracted by act three.

I've seen alot of comparisons to Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf, but in all honesty, the insults, critiques, and take downs in this film would be like opening statements for the couple in Virginia Wolf.

Burton and Taylor's characters would eat this couple for breakfast imo.

So, all in all, I give the performances an A ,all the way. I give the film overall a B-.

I'd still recommend checking it out just for the solid acting of these two talents, but be prepared for a slog.

I mean Zendaya is 24 and Washington is 36. Is the age difference really that bad?

I don't think so, but everyone has their own opinions about May/ December relationships , so there you go.

I actually think alot of the drama over the age thing has to do with the fact that the public has seen Zendaya grow from being a teen actress to an adult . Alot of times when child actresses in particular , get older and start playing more adult roles in which sex or sexualization is involved, people will start freaking out.

Several years, back people had a cow over Miley Cyrus's transition from pop kid Hanna Montana, to a sexy ,more adult image as a pop star. Now , nobody gives a damn.

That wasn't a May / December , thing but it was the same sort of inability to except that even child actresses eventually grow up.

I think once Zendaya starts playing more and more R rated characters, so to speak, people will freak out less ,and less about who she's with on screen ,and they'll just get use to it.

Wasn’t a fan of this at all. Zendaya did a great job but JDW’s acting and character were unbearable/unlikable. Probably would have worked better as a stage play.

I thought Tenet would have definitely redeem JDW overall poor acting, but he really wasn't good in this. He needs some work...

I’m only 15 mins into the movie and I find the dialogue pretentious. And that box Mac and cheese looked nasty as hell.

Nah it straight up was boxed Mac and cheese. Blasphemous in a black household.
BAHAHAHA oh that’s what you mean. Ok, true.

but we establish early on that his character is pretty privileged and out of touch with the black experience

I thought he was really good in this. I believe so far in his career his biggest asset is his physicality and this role managed to blend that into Malcolm since much of his performance is a verbal assault.
