It would be infused with brutal violence and perverse sexual acts. Archie and the “gang” would be a group of preppy abhorrent abusive jocks that wreak havoc on the town of Riverdale. Mr. Weatherbee, the principal of Riverdale High School decides to use his skills as former Marine to stop Archie and his destructive cohorts.

Yeah...no. Archie should stay in the comics. I don't think a movie of him would be a good idea.

Except that Archie already has three of them. Mind you, two of them are live-action made for TV films shown on ABC, and the third is perhaps Boomerang's only "original" channel offering.

That said, if you like the comics, you'll love any of 'em. And if you dislike the comics...

Watching a John Waters movie is the film equivalent of getting raped, in my eyes... so, no thanks.

That's the whole point of a John Waters movie Loud Silent Man.

Cast:
Archie Andrews: Ron Howard

Mr. Weatherbee: Fred Thompson

The idea of Waters doing an Archie movie is.....genius :wow:

No it's not, it's stupid.

What's stupid about it? John Waters has a flare for making pop Americana vulgar and obscene. It's the only way to make an entertaining Archie movie. Think about it...

This...

Plus this...

I always said that John Hughes comeback should be a live action Archie flick.

John Hughes wouldn't be a bad choice, but it would be going against my idea for an Archie film. The concept encompasses taking the surreal absurdity of the 1950's and infusing it with sadistic brutality.

I think me and you are the only two on the hype who "get" this.

I "get it", it's just stupid. Who cares about John Waters? his movies are lame.
The guy takes 50's-60's American pop culture and amps up the sex and the violence, causeing a interesting condradiction. "Let's do it with the beloved Archie characters, it's so avant garde!" Lame.
And putting Archie in a violent atmosphere has been done, read Punisher Meets Archie, and there you go.

Archie comics would never let Water even breathe on their property. They shut down a play groupe who wanted to portray Archie and the Gang as gay, Almost made the rock group, The Veronicas change their name, and shut down a fanfic website. They are very serious about their property. and as Johnny Drama pointed it, it would be stupid to try to make clean cut Archie Avant Guarde. If you want a sex filled Archie, I suggest you picky up the Cherry comics ( which have characters and artwork based on Archie in XXX rated situations. A John Hughs or Chris Columbus Archie movie would be awesome. But I fear the closest we'll ever get to seeing a live action Archie was the God-awful NBC movie of the week from 1990,and old episodes of " Saved By The Bell " ( Zack was like Archie, Slater/Reggie, Screech/ JugHead, Lisa/ Veronica, Kelly/Betty, Mr. Bellding/ Mr. Weatherbee)

i'm always facinated how Archie still has a solid fanbase. Actually i went to their official blog and it's cute to see readers (mostly kids I think) responding to each post. It's their own "Batman" and "Spider-Man".

Archie is as dead as Hanson. This idea would be highly entertaining and would revitalize interest in the character.

At least he makes the kinds of films he wants to make, completely devoid of compromise. Plus, he's got certain directorial talents that disqualify him from being a "lame" director. Ron Howard is lame, Paul Haggis is lame, Sam Mendes is lame. John Waters? He's too subversive and uncompromising to be "lame" regardless of the quality of his films

Archie is not dead; they're not as big as they were but you can find Archie comics almost everywhere. and if you go to the main site, there's a lot of fans still reading it and commenting on the blogs.

D...E....D.
DEAD!
All of these so called "fans" are most likely basement dwelling perverts who use the comics to pick up fresh meat (the underage, easily persuaded male kind).

Archie comics are entertaining simple reads.

John Waters would make an amazing Archie movie.

I'm sure it's mostly kids, dude. lol. i'm sure of it.

I'm still an Archie fan, and I'm not a pervert. In this day and age of Anti-Heroes, Dark and Depressing Emos, and sexual images everywhere, it's nice to read some good ol fashion, wholesome fun.

there's nothing wrong with Archie and bless them for keepin' it real.

I'm not sure what's wrong with sex and anti-heroes, but Archie is fun in a corny, ironic kind of way. :o

I'm not sure why an Archie film hasn't been seriously pursued yet, with all the interest in family-friendly properties and shows like Glee-- Archie doesn't involve sex, drugs, violence.. and you could do various spinoff films like Betty & Veronica, Sabrina, etc. Get some talented unknowns to play the roles, and sign them up for multiple films.. This could even be a non-Disney studios chance at having their own "high school musical" analog if they want to include original songs..
