Apparently sources are reporting he's the top choice and the skeptical Jason from ************** said his sources are saying Whedon as the helmer is "...very possible". Given we already know of Rian Johnson's attachment to Episode VIII and Josh Trank had been announced for Anthology 2, it's likely we'll get an Episode IX announcement in the near future.

Now in my opinion Whedon would is an unexciting choice. I was a bit underwhelmed by AoU, but even after Avengers came out he still wasn't my first choice. Personally I'd be much more excited to see Matthew Vaughn's name attached. Needless to say Whedon is a very talented director and would not be a bad choice by any stretch- especially for a film with a Return of the Jedi style tone.

No thanks. I'd rather him not touch Star Wars.

I thought Rian Johnson was doing one of these movies? Or was that just a rumor?

Rian is doing VIII.

1. Bird
2. Vaughn
3. JJ

These are my top choices for IX. Whedon is great at spectacle but for an episode I don't see the fit.

Maybe an anthology movie. One that requires smugglers, bounty hunters and Star ships blasting one another.

The problem with Vaughn is that I'm not a fan of how his movies look. They are usually look kinda flat looking.

I hate Whedon so no. Firefly and Serenity were awful flops. He had his chance with sci fi and failed.

I hope it's not true. Give him a spin off film, like the Boba Fett one. But not one of the episodes...

Whedon's style is too signature. Not sure it would mesh with what JJ and Rian will accomplish. JJ seems mature enough to sacrifice his personal touches (ex. Exaggerated lens flares) for the greater good of the movie. Not sure Whedon would do the same.

Ps. I loved Firefly, Serenity, and both Avengers films.

I hope this happens! Whedon understands what makes space operas tick (Firefly, Serenity, Titan AE, even Alien Resurrection to a lesser extent) and bringing him into Star Wars would be an unbelievable oppurtunity.

As a massive, MASSIVE Whedon worshipper (and a big Star Wars fan)... I'd have to say no. A) I don't think his dialogue fits Star Wars, anyway, and dialog is a BIG part in a Whedon film. B) I wouldn't want the Star Wars fans flipping on Whedon like some Marvel fans did after AOU just because they weren't paying attention.

You are aware that Episode IX is being directed by Colin Trevorrow, right?

Thank frak Whedon isn't directing IX. The dude is overrated - massively disappointed with Age of Ultron. As for Colin Trevorrow directing, that drives the final nail in the coffin of Whedon even directing the film.

I thought Abrams was returning for Ep 9?

Nope, Colin Treverrow is the director. Now, we aren't sure how involved Abrams will be with the rest of the trilogy, though. I get the feeling that Rian Johnson is going to have more influence on IX than JJ, though.

I would take Whedon over this Colin fellow a billion times. Heck, TFA had tinges of Joss' post modern, self aware wit anyways.

Yes, JJ is to 8 what Rian will be to 9.

I'm more worried about Rian Johnson than Trevorrow, frankly. Trevorrow has at least made one movie I really loved, which is more than I can say for anything Johnson has done. Looper is so overrated among fanboys it kills me.
