Jurassic World: Dominion

He didn't age well.

I still laugh at the fan theories from a few years back that the six foot turkey kid grew up to be Chris Pratt in Jurassic World.

But seriously, a character who I wouldn't mind coming back is Vince Vaughn's Nick Van Owen, although it would be highly unlikely since the new films have barely acknowledged The Lost World and JP3, if at all. But that dude has a lot to answer for. There's a lot of blood on his hands and most of the deaths in TLW are on him, both for bringing the baby T-Rex back to his camp and for taking the shells out of Roland's gun.

The movie didn't seem to see it that way though.

He didn't do it with malicious intent (at least not saving the infant) but he did pretty much get away scot-free. Like how he was able to make the radio call for help without attracting even the slightest attention from the nearby velociraptors. At least when Billy stole the eggs and put the group in danger in JP3, he redeemed himself by saving the kid and subsequently getting seriously injured in the process.

Just a simple shot of Roland hunting wild dinosaurs would’ve been incredible in the next film. RIP Pete Postlethwaite

I like Roger Ebert’s comment on Postlethwaite in his review of TLW. He said he alone of all the actors in the movie actually seems to believe he’s on an island with dinosaurs rather than just reacting to special effects.

No way guys. That kid could totally pass for Jake Gyllenhaal lmao. We got ourselves the next lead for the new trilogy.

I think a Vince Vaughn cameo or just him appearing in 1 scene or something could be neat. Didn't necessarily like his character in TLW but this film seems to be all about "connecting everything together" and finishing the franchise off (but if it makes billions we know it wont be the end). I guess the issue is Vince Vaughn or Julianne Moore for example are more recognizable now than they were when TLW was made, so to have a scene with either one of them appear would maybe go beyond "hey nice to see them again" and go into "wait they managed to get them for this movie and they are only in 1 scene?". Most realistic option I could see would be the kid from JP3 (now as an adult) in a very minor role as some sort of dino expert - he did survive among them for weeks after all.

Then again like someone said, they seem to take the Disney Star Wars approach of "lets ignore those other movies" and the TLW/JP3 tie-ins have been very minimal (if any?). The fact they had to move dinos off Isla Nublar and didn't even acknowledge Isla Sorna (unless i'm misremembering) felt pretty lame. I know in the game(s) there's like 4-5 islands in total (or more) but i'm not sure if this is technically 'cannon' as only 2 have been mentioned in the films.

I think there was some weird fan theory that that kid grew up to be the Chris Pratt character.

Guess we’ll know for sure when Sam Neill meets him again.

Yes, that is a theory. And I'm one of the few that's all for it! I think it makes perfect sense. A kid that has no respect for Velociraptor's, grows up to not only respect and understand them, but trains them to obey. I love it!

Wow I never heard of that theory before. Was it completely random or did someone actually try to link those two characters enough that it’s possible they could be the same person?

I forget where it originated, but it got all the way to Colin Trevorrow, and he said it's plausible.

I'd rather have more Vince Vaughn, than more Jake Johnson, Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith, or BD Wong.

^ That is as true as it is depressing. I'm rooting for this film. I like the sound of some of the details, love animatronics, but have no expectations at this point.

Yeah the 'role' of Isla Sorna always felt a bit blurry from the films. From The Lost World you get the 'this island was to see how they could live in the wild' (which is contradicted by some dialogue about that being the birth place) but then in JP3 when we see more of the island you have multiple buildings and the aviary (plus the huge fence the Spino breaks through) which adds more confusion as it makes Sorna seem like more of a second park and not the island of 'free' dinos.

So I guess the retcon of a second island was necessary in the sequel book because the first book said the Nubla facility was destroyed. But it wasn't really necessary in the films. They could have just gone back to the original island.

Yeah, TLW (the movie) has about as much in common with the book as the Catwoman movie did with the DC Comics character. I remember watching it thinking, “What the **** is all of this? Who are all these people? Where are Levine, Dodgson, Thorne, etc.?”

The book wasn’t very good but wow did they ever butcher the source material in the movie.

Well even the original Jurassic Park movie isn't really much like the book either.

Hammond gets eaten by Compys, Wu gets eaten by a Raptor, Muldoon and Gennaro survive (The Last World book has a throwaway reference to Gennaro dying of dysentery on a business trip, lol), Malcolm "dies" (and is later retconned into still being alive), Grant is a lot older than Ellie and they're not a couple, Lex and Tim are basically switched around, there's the bit in the aviary that they more or less adapt in Jurassic Park III, a juvenile T-Rex, and the whole third act with the Raptor nest and the island getting firebombed is completely different.

About the only pretty faithful page-to-screen scenes are Nedry's demise and the T-Rex breaking out of its paddock and attacking the cars.

Yeah, that all is very true. That’s part of the reason I don’t like JP as much as everyone else does. I hated a lot of the changes, particularly the unnecessary ones like changing Malcolm from an uptight, fractal-obsessed nerd to a wisecracking d-bag who adds nothing of value. And Genaro is kind of heroic in the book but in the movie they make him a cowardly schmuck who leaves the kids to die. And yeah, half the characters who die in the book live in the movie and vice versa.

Hammond is softened a lot in the movie too.

Actually everyone comes off kind of dickish in the book.

Eh, I would argue that Grant comes off very likable in the book but the movie version is kind of a jerk.
