Jurassic World: Dominion

Agreed with the above. I don't mind Chris Pratt, but Owen just feels bland at best to me in both movies. His relationship with Blue -- as underdeveloped as it is so far -- is the most interesting thing about him, and the raptor strikes me as having more personality.

Hollywood really seems to struggle with just the entire concept of blood really. I have to admit I still kinda enjoyed it despite all the stupidity :O.

Ironically, the blood transfusion bit is actually one of the few things that was somewhat scientifically sound. Unlike mammals, birds can accept transfusions from a wider variety of species since they don't have blood types as specific as mammals do, so you could have a cross-species transfusion between two close-enough related non-avian dinosaurs without immediately causing shock. That said, they absolutely didn't need to get blood from the T. rex; Gallimimus and Compsognathus are both more closely related animals that we know were on the boat, and would've made more practical sense. (Plus, if Blue doesn't get actual treatment post-stabilization via transfusion she's still at risk of going into shock eventually...)

Well, I don't think a Compy would be a great source for a transfusion, with the amounts you would want...

True; Gallimimus is the closest relative anyway.

(Now I'm just imagining them draining blood from all the compies onboard and just leaving bodies behind à la chupacabra.)

Oh. Well, in that case, points to you, movie  lol

And I agree with everyone saying that Pratt is a little unlikeable in these films. I'm not sure how much of that is because of his performance or because of the fact that the writing is just so **** but... yeah. He's better in other stuff.

I blame the writing. Especially in Fallen Kingdom. That movie felt like it was written with crayons by a 2 year old.

I don't have an issue with Pratt in the JW movies, and this is the first I've seen people trashing him in them.

Does it count if I hated everyone in JW:FK and not just him, LOL! I thought he was fine in JW.

I thought Bryce Dallas Howard was better in Fallen Kingdom because she was allowed to loosen up and not be this corporate shrew caricature the whole time.

Watched this movie again in 4K, and I enjoyed it a little more this time. On first viewing, going from the action packed first half of the movie to the slow 2nd half was really jarring, but as I knew what to expect this time, I enjoyed it more and the 2nd half didn't seem to drag as much.

The bad guys are still cartoons, but (for me at least) Pratt and Howard keep things interesting and Blue and Rexy (who is pretty much the Millennium Falcon/Optimus Prime of the franchise at this point) are great and it's surprising how invested you get in them. FK also has some really good emotional beats spread throughout, and some great horror moments also. I think this one will continue to grow on me.

Saw it at the cinema and was the first (since the original) I did see at the big screen and I took it as a reasonably broad comedy with dino moments there within. Toby Jones' character was pure farce as was most of the second half but my reservations before going in to see it and those that existed months before stand today, how do you make what is effectively the same film, 5 times over ? The first film worked because of a world-class imperious director able to make any material 'work', plus revolutionary SFX at the time, trying to make the same dynamics click 25 years later for the 5th time is not so easy using effectively the same beats.

I appreciate they make millions of dollars of money and so will continue to be made but let's try and round out the second trilogy with a wee bit of variety please.

Oh the bad guys are total cartoons. Rafe Spall (son of Wormtail, no less!) smothering Farmer Hoggett with a pillow (!) and then his bulging eyeballs watching the auction prices soar (why not just have dollar signs for pupils with that Kill Bill freeze frame/zoom-in alarm blaring).

Dr. Zola moving into the black market dinosaur auction market (?) after the whole HYDRA world domination plot fell through. Harry Potter should never have presented Toby Jones with clothes. No good has ever come of it, between co-hosting The Hunger Games, rebuilding HYDRA, and now auctioning off dinosaurs to a roomful of James Bond villains.

That's the crowd you wanna get at a dinosaur auction though. For any pragmatic person, dinosaurs would be a terribly inefficient and unreliable method for trying to kill anyone, let alone an enemy military, but James Bond villains have the logically questionable sense of grandiosity that can appreciate owning an Indoraptor. Probably all have secret lairs inside volcanoes or asteroid craters or at the bottom of the ocean.

And then you've got Ted Levine (right up there with poor Toby Jones as someone perpetually typecast) with some random dinosaur teeth fetish and committing the most flagrantly stupid act in the movie, which is saying something.

Watched it again for the first time since I saw it at theaters, as I finally grabbed the BR. Still the same opinion. I liked it, but it was nothing special. It had a lot of flaws, but it's still enjoyable (to me), just disappointing. Then again, so are a lot of the other Jurassic movies. After some thought, I rank it like this.

Jurassic Park (ahead by a mile)
Jurassic World
Jurassic Park 2&3 tied
Jurassic World 2

JP 2, 3, and Jurassic World 2 are all in the same ballpark to me. JP 2 had the best story of the 3 on the bottom, but I disliked the cast. Ian Malcolm just did not work in the lead role for me. Jeff Goldblum is a good actor, Ian is a good character, but he's a supporting character to me.

JP 3 had a bad story, and the kid was annoying, but I liked the rest of the cast much better than 2's. I also liked most of the action better than in 2 as well, minus the ending of JP 2 with the T-Rex.

JW 2 is kinda in between. 2 good characters, rest were annoying. Weak story, but not quite as bad as JP 3's. It left the island too early. The mansion scene felt more like a slasher flick than a Jurassic movie. The villains were almost too on the nose to the point of appearing cartoony. However it had some good memorable moments.

My main worry is what state it leaves the franchise in. If Jurassic World 3 fails, it could tank the series. The Dino's are off the island (which is a big part of the earlier movies), and in civilization. You can't put that genie back in the bottle.

TLW and this movie actually have some things in common. Namely the idiot heroes and hamfisted "message" that's delivered with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer to the face, and just gets really insufferable to listen to really quick.

But TLW at least had a cool character like Roland in it, this movie not so much.

While I liked FK more on 2nd viewing, I still do agree they left the island too early. I think that sequence needed to be longer, with the mansion scenes being shorter and I think the movie would have been better for it.

While I like Toby Jones, his character did not need the focus it got, he could have been really cut down in his screen time.

For me. the worst has always been JP III.
Watched JP2 recently, not so bad.

I was thinking of Jurassic Park lately, mainly because I follow Klayton Fioriti on Youtube, and I was thinking of Jurassic World; a very flawed film that made me think of the earlier films and wish this one was written better. Needless to say, I am not fond of it. But I thought about the cliches and how it could've been different if it used different ideas, went different directions, not with a different story but with the one they were using. I decided to rewrite Jurassic World and share it, because why not.

My version is no different from the final product: Jurassic World exists, and unlike its Jurassic Park counterpart, it is very successful and long lasting. But here's the differences: 1) no one is bored over seeing dinosaurs, because no one ever would; and 2) genetic engineering has gone far and beyond the likes of just cloning dinos back to life. In my version, the scientists of Jurassic World have genetically nurtured each dinosaur to be under their control at all costs. Which means, for example: a Brachiosaurus will never step on human beings, nor will a Mosasaurus eat someone if they accidentally fell into the water. Why? They are "designed" not to do so. All the dinos are this, from their own to surviving dinos from the original Park and Site B, except for one that we'll get to.

Owen Grady is still a Velociraptor expert and handler, who has successfully shown using the nature theme to the Raptors, which is why they are trained not to kill but help humans, but many opted for their genetic controlling procedure. Claire Dearing is still the Jurassic World operations manager, only here she has shades of darkness within her. However, characters like Hoskins and the return of Henry Wu doesn't exist here, nor do Claire's nephews appear in this version either. The latter is more or less replaced by random kids dealing with the crisis from the park. But the creation of the I-Rex still is, and the reason why is because of them playing God to create their own Dinos. However, while the creation is successful, their control over it like the others does not work. Deeming it an overall failure, the I-Rex is ordered to be destroyed, until it escapes through mysterious means.

Here, while the final product is still used when it comes to the I-Rex attacks, there are noticeable major differences. One of which is that the escape of the I-Rex is revealed to have been an inside job, which is learned to be thanks to a security guard, who is actually part of an Eco-terrorist group wanting to destroy Jurassic World and their "unpure intentions". The I-Rex attacks each dino and makes its way to the main area of the park; because all of the dinos are designed to not harm and protect humans, each dino safeguards them while they evacuate, and later fight the I-Rex. Most of these dinos are badly hurt, even die; Owen leads the Raptors to fight, but they suffer the same fate, with the exception of Blue. With all hope lost, and the I-Rex about to escape to the mainland, Claire decides to use the one dino that they couldn't control like the others: the T-Rex. Just like the final product, the T-Rex and Blue fight the I-Rex, until it dies by the hands of the Mosasaurus. The threat is over.

But in this version, the ending is completely different. To prevent news of their secret work, revealing the use of making dinos like the I-Rex to be illegal compared to cloning actually existing dinos, everything about the I-Rex is completely buried under secrets and lies. Instead, the incident is blamed on both the Eco-terrorist group and the T-Rex instead, and is later killed; yes, the T-Rex from the original film dies here. The park is reopened just as new controllable dinos are created to replace the ones who died. Owen is told to keep his mouth shut or be fired, and because he doesn't want to see Blue become something she's not when he's not there, decides to let the whole thing go. Everything is back to normal, under the sequel, which seeing what I did here, its clear where my version would go.

So that's my version of Jurassic World. I thought about this for a while, long while, and wanted to share. Thoughts?

New animated series

The plot centers on a group of six teenagers chosen for a once-in-a-lifetime experience at a new adventure camp on the opposite side of Isla Nublar. But when dinosaurs wreak havoc across the island, the campers are stranded. Unable to reach the outside world, they’ll need to go from strangers to friends to family if they’re going to survive.

interesting idea, seems fresher and unique compared to what we got, the old cliches etc plus making dinosaurs likeable, even more so, is smart as kids love dino's right?

...well, as long as it's better than Fallen Kingdom, I'm in.

Thanks man. One out of many stories I could rewrite or write and want to bring to life. I need a connection or more for that though, especially one studio and their franchise...

I felt the movie we got was too similar to JP, so your take just freshened it up whilst still following what they wanted to do. It's funny cos a lot of us fancast and write up plots etc and sometimes we put out really good ideas and it's not until you read back actual plot synopsis of real movies do we then think 'oh our idea wasn't too bad'. Like endgame for instance, antman gets released after a rat steps and turns on the machine, he locates the team, that are now low key and tony is off living in the woods and tells them about time not..blah blah you get the idea, so yeah, nice idea of yours and would have been a nice twist of them not being scary but friendly. It has a great toy line after all.

I heard they wanted to do the human dna splicing route... so glad they didn't.
