Jurassic World - Part 5

They even changed the ripples of the water (and the color too.)

I'm a stickler for bad CGI, but here the CG was fine. Most the shots we've seen before have been improved. The dinosaurs are blending in better with the surroundings.

Wasn't finished? It's completely different.

Yeah unfinished. If you actually look at the shot you can see that the tv spot shot is far more complex and better looking ans isn't using elements to mask where the various background pieces come together. In the teaser, the dinosaur is being masked with crude water and spray. The sky is a uniform cloud cover. The tram rail in the teaser shot is masking where the various background elements come together. And the mountain ridge is two ridges slapped together with a fairly uniform depth of field. Now look at the Super Bowl shot? Very few elements masking or blocking anything. We can clearly see the base of the ridge. The sky is no longer uniform. The ridge line is broken up and the depth of field is broken up. A valley is in the distant. The dinosaur is no longer surrounded by that spray. The rail line is no longer cluttering up the background. Is it different? Yes. Why is it different? Because like I said, the trailer shot was a temp version. This isn't uncommon and it's a normal part of a VFX artists job for which they are paid to do.

Just to be clear tho I'm not saying I support how Jackson treats his VFX artists. What Jackson does is actually very hard on the VFX artists. What's happened with this shot here however is in no way unfair to the VFX artists. It's just a normal part of their work load, and they aren't anywhere near the premiere date. This is the natural development of a shot. Now, if we find out that designs and entire finished shots were thrown out a month before this comes out, that the I-rex design has been completely reworked four weeks before release, or that a whole new third act chase is being shot in pickups then trust me Ill be *****ing about it right along with all of yall. That kind of stuff is BS no matter how much VFX artists get paid. They don't get paid enough to work 24+hours straight right up to the deadline cause the director has questionably managed elements of the film.

Agree. The CGI looked top notch here, which I didn't feel with the first trailer.

It's not out until June. Plenty of time to sharpen all the CGI up, but I thought it looked great.

You cannot explain things to JMC. He doesn't listen or comprehend haha

The only thing that looks iffy were the eyes of the animatroinic dino that Bryce Dallas is looking at.

A lot of stand-in material to get the shot out for the trailer.

This? Looks good to me I dunno

It looks odd especially when it's moving. Maybe because it looks 'blue' and too human like?

I dunno? I thought it looked good but that's me haha

You really don't know how much work goes into even temps shots do you? The issue is that the two shots are completely different, you don't just slap things on afterwards, it requires a complete repaint, and that takes hours, many hours. You don't appreciate how long these people work to get this stuff looking right even at the concept phase, and more often than not they are not budgeted to take on the extra work directors demand on them for alterations. If the original trailers background was missing a few elements here and there that's one thing, but it's a completely different backdrop, which means a complete repaint. Different mountains, different atmosphere, different texture, and that takes time, in some cases countless hours and more often than not for no extra finances, but they do it anyway because at the end of the day you've got to pay the bills. This is the type of practices which makes artists feel completely underappreciated.

this was probably the best trailer out of the super bowl. fast 7 looks like silly fun, and tomorrow land looks amazing but it was way too short.

Also it's amazing how Alan in his dream saw a Raptor that had the quills etc. meanwhile the raptors he originally saw from JP had no quills and different color. That makes it even worse haha.

So I'm guessing the i-Rex smashes up the aviary and the pteranodons get out that way.

I don't want to derail the thread any further and apologise for the tangent. As someone who works in the art industry these practices annoy the living hell out of me and I'm very passionate about it. I'm going to leave it there and let everyone enjoy the trailer.

Well it's like being an exec chef. If you critique every thing that you ate from other restaurants, it'll drive you ga ga go! You can't can't do that all the time because you're only human.
