Jurassic World - Part 5

I love how for TLW they went for a colder, forest look compared to the more tropical locales of JP/III. The whole film seemed more foreboding in that sense.

Spielberg was going for a truly lived in lost paradise world ala King Kong or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World.

It's actually the only one in the series to look like that now since 3 went back to the look of the first and of course this new one is a perfectly maintained zoo.

Ajay, poor bastard.

"Don't go into the long grass!"

*Proceeds to run further into the long grass*

Even though the lost world has flaws (mainly with the characters) I still find it to be enjoyable. Its better than JP 3 in my opinion because it at least tried to do something different. JP 3 was just a lazy rip off from the previous 2 movies. Seeing Grant and Sadler again was really the only highlights of the movie.

I'll take harmless B-movie over pretentious hypocrisy any day. Also JPIII was mercifully shorter than TLW was. So JPIII>TLW for me. You movie has problems when I hate the people that I'm supposed to like and have no real issue with the people who are supposed to be the "villains." Oh and your so-called protagonists being responsible for most of the deaths/destruction in the movie isn't good either.

Malcolm himself is okay. It is the idiots with him that really destroy the movie.

Even worse, JP3 has the exact same problem. It is Grant and a bunch of jerks who deserve to get eaten.

JP1 works in part because we actually like the characters.

Yeah, but at least the characters in JPIII were ordinary Joes who just wanted their son back. In TLW, they're supposed to be experts in their field, and yet they display Prometheus-levels of stupidity. Also JPIII wasn't trying to preach to me and failing, which made it somewhat more tolerable.

Spielberg's style of cinematography really changed after Schindler's List. Thanks to Kaminski and I think how much Schinder changed Spielberg as a director in some ways. And it's reflected in TLW. Spielberg made a more cynical and dark film. I really love that they strove to do a different feel than the last one.

The parents in JP 3 are just as annoying as the characters in The Lost World in my opinion. Tea Leoni's acting as the mom was cringe worthy. There are scenes where I hoped a Raptor would just eat her. Also, JP 3 gave us the cheese/ lol moment of the Raptor saying Alan. Ha

That movie introduced me to William H Macy, so it'll always have that going for it.

Actually, wait, Mystery Men did that. Well, it still had Sam Neill.

Man I miss this game, I played the hell out of this game. A sequel to this on next gen would be awesome. Wishful thinking haha.

Kaminski is a great cinematographer but yes, his style tends to be more…real and cold. It's a not a bad thing but a different feel though it's appropriate considering the Beard's more recent work(s).

Personally, I'm tired of it. Spielberg either should change cinematographers (unlikely) or get Kaminski to try something new. Kaminski is great and known to be flexible, hence the change in KOTCS.

I dislike both of these, though the later will hold my attention longer than the former.

Even though there were problems with TLW's characters, the film as a whole felt more legitimate as a sequel to JP than III did. Going into B-movie territory...it's not something I'm a fan of, especially when the aesthetic aspects of the series go downhill as I believe it did with III.

Yesh. I feel when I watch TLW it feels grand and trying to up the stakes of the last film and a natural next step.

With JP3 it just feels like a downgrade in everything.

Overall I'd say so far from what we know of JW, JW is actually more of a legit sequel to JP than both TLW and JP3.

I definitely prefer TLW to JP3. At least there is some good stuff in it. The only good thing about JP3 is Grant.

And for what it was, the Spino was ****ing cool. I appreciate them for giving us a new big dino threat. Despite not being appreciative of how they got rid of that previous threat...

People talk about stupid characters in TLW but the parents in JP 3 were pretty dumb and annoying. It's crazy that their son was more capable and way, less annoying than they were. I mean the kid lasted weeks on the island ALONE, his parents would have gotten themselves killed soon as they touched ground on the island if they didn't have Grant around. In fact, they nearly got killed by the Spino once they got on the island because Tea leoni's character shouting into that megaphone attracting the Spino. The Lost World may be a step down from Jurassic Park 1 but to me it isn't as lazy as JP 3.

That game was great. 4 years ago some idiot on Ebay had it for 20 bucks, new in wrapping. Scored it, free shipping too. :woot:

I miss the old SNES / Sega JP games too, those were awesome. Difficult, but awesome.

I agree. I know Spielberg prefers to work with the same crew members -- like his editor Michael Kahn, composer John Williams and producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall -- but during the 1980s and early 1990s he worked with several different cinematographers. Allen Daviau, Dean Cundey, and Douglas Sloacombe. All of them gave Spielberg's films a different feel.

Ever since he worked with Kaminski, he never changed gears. Even the Coen brothers changed DPs periodically -- they worked with Bruno Delbonnel and Emmanuel Lubiezki -- even though they stick with Roger Deakins.

I would love for Spielberg to work with someone who can really bring his/her flavor to his filmmaking. Roger Pratt, Amy Vincent, Wally Pfister, Hoyte van Hoytema, John Toll, Emmanuel Lubiezki... tons of DPs who would give up an arm and a leg to work with Spielberg. I would bet digital enthusiasts like Dean Semler and Jeff Cronoweth would go back to 35mm just for him.

Pratt has charisma to spare!
I'm on board the Pratt train, but what we've seen so far of him in this film doesn't leave me with any confidence for his role in this film. Yes, we haven't seen much and I hope I'm proven wrong, but his acting in the trailer makes me cringe. He plays the loveable goofball well, but I'm not so sure he can pull off the more serious stuff it looks like his character is meant to be.

I didn't find any problem with his serious performance in the trailer. I think people just have his lovable goofball images so ingrained in their mind that it's hard for them to see him in a more mature or serious role.
