Jurassic World - Part 6

Shame there's a dispute over the process.

Am I mistaken, please correct me, but I think Nicole Pearlman got equal billing for the screenplay for 'Guardians of the Galaxy' with James Gunn right?

Her draft was completely rewritten by Gunn. almost nothing she wrote was in the final script; she didn't even Groot.

Yep, she was second-billed after Gunn. The WGA arbitration process is such a double-edged sword. On one hand, it diminishes the efforts from the actual writer (in this case Gunn) because they have to share credit and residuals with the first writer. But in Perlman's case, it's a HUGE career boost and it enables her to take better-paying gigs due to the Marvel screenwriting program and GOTG being a massive success. (I'm surprised she hasn't been inundated with offers from WB/DC or even Marvel to write more scripts.)

And Perlman was quick to praise Gunn's rewrites and his approach to the film.

This thing happens all the time in Hollywood, just not reported frequently.

Jaffa & Silver did the same thing for Dawn of the Apes, even though Mark Bomback's shooting script was done from scratch. They still got a screenplay and story by credit (as well as executive producer credit).

I see. Good to know, shame it's not harmonioius all the time.

I didn't know that about Perlman. I know Gunn was big on taking all the credit so it's nice to know she wasn't offended by it.

Zak Penn got a story credit for Avengers even though Joss Whedon told Kevin Feige that Marvel had nothing with his drafts and started over from scratch essentially. Essentially, Penn's drafts got tossed in the trash. Nature of the business.

Keep in mind, Nicole Perlman writing the Guardians script and her draft is what made Disney want to bankroll the film.

The studios - by way of guild rules - are basically covering their asses. Even if they completely throw a script out, if the final script happens to have even one similar line - coincidence or not - without giving all previous writers credit, they could be up **** creek. You also bring up a good point about Perlman as well - even if her draft wasn't used, it was HER WORK that got the film made. She deserves credit, as do all writers in that situation.

You bring up a good point. It was after Jaffa & Silver signed on for JP4 that the studio set a date (which they pushed back a year) and finalized Colin Trevorrow's deal to direct. So their involvement got production rolling -- in that respect they deserve screen credit.

Some of the comments on Deadline's article -- like one in particular -- points out that one scene in JW (the mossaur eating the shark) was thought up by Jaffa & Silver, not Trevorrow & Connolly. Don't know if that's true or not.

It's always hard to hear someone's opinion on movies, depending on:

- Their Taste
- How film geeky they are. This one is something that can go either way. The gift of being a film geek/snob is that at least they're able to tell you why they didn't like it. Verses a casual movie goer who can't articulate their opinion.

Is it just me or has news regarding Jurassic World been really slow?

Read below. Plus the MTV awards is coming up where they're gonna show some footage so slow? No. And we just got a video tease yesterday and heard some of the score being recorded.

Not at all. All kinds of pictures, details, news, trailers.
You wanna see SLOW news? visit the Batman V Superman threads lol

Exactly

Yeah but that film doesn't come out for another year. This one is coming in 2 months.

Isn't the full trailer supposed to drop today?

Doesn't matter the news really isn't "slow" for JW at all

They are waiting for the premiere of Ultron to pass by...

I agree but using Batman V Superman as an example of "slow" news is a stupid example considering how far away it is from release.

Now the movie Pan, that's "slow" news.

She took a gig writing Guardians comics instead.
