I'm failing to see what's negative. It's not like people like this don't exist. I see two different characters. Boring ones, but different.

They do exist. However, this relationship dynamic has been portrayed ad nauseam since the 70s (probably why they are boring) and it has all to do with a growing female workforce.

Feminists, such as myself, would like to see more diverse character relationships and more diverse men and women.

You can't disagree with me respectfully? She says she needs to talk to him, he suggest they talk "privately" i.e. sex. He doesn't want to have a professional relationship with her. Just a sexual one. And this is one directional. We have no idea what her desires are.

You're right. We don't know her desires....so why do you contradict yourself by proclaiming the relationship is one directional? You contradicted yourself in one sentence. Nice.

You can't assert something you have no knowledge of. She may not want a relationship in the context of THAT clip...but she may want one in the film proper. And because he made a joke, it automatically means he doesn't want her as a boss because he only wants sex?

You accuse us of making up scenario's, when that's all you're doing.

Based off the content of the clip, our assessments have much more ground than yours.

It is a trope. But that doesn't mean it won't be a well executed trope or subvert the trope later in the film.

There are plenty of diverse characters. Boo-hoo the ones in JW are familiar. Don't watch it then.

I mean it's a damn mainstream sci-fi action film that is the fourth installment of the franchise. What kind of groundbreaking characters do you want the film to portray? Blind amnesiac Turkish fishermen? Taking a trope and working from that is an easy way to frame a story.

We don't know her desires because the clip doesn't show hers, because they are inconsequential to Pratt, our protagonist. Not a contradiction, sorry.

I hope you are right and the film proper alleviates my concerns. But you are admitting that there are concerns to alleviate in the first place.

This is a movie with dinosaurs where the box office is the bottom line, do you think the suits would allow anything different with an investment like this? Is appeasing one group worth losing the other group of moviegoers?

Some movies do manage to have interesting and dynamic relationships between women and men, outside of negative gender stereotypes, and do well at the box office.

That women in power must be high-strung, "ball-busters" is a gendered stereotype. The problem and negativity comes when just a single type of character is repeated in entertainment to the point where it is seen as natural in society.

Female bosses still face a lot problems in the workplace in terms of being disrespected by male employees. Howard's authority, because she is a woman, is undermined based on being a potential sex partner for our protagonist.

I only see a woman that has become successful, and given what I see at bars/every day reactions she isn't much different from many other women when it comes to shutting a guy down.

Thank you Hunter I appreciate the effort to try and get the thread back on track It seems like there will be some sort of sequence in the gyrosphere. The super bowl spot shows the herd of Dinos running around the gyro and then as we know we see a clip later of the D-Rex attacking the kids in the gyro. So my guess is they're off in the gyrosphere when the D-Rex escapes. And it makes its way into the herd and they run the kids in the gyro off course into the jungle or something where it attacks them.

That sounds great, can the Gyrosphere's be controlled manually? It feels like a nice homage and update of the classic sequence in the first Jurassic Park.

You keep stating this like it's a fact. Prove that so many men have an issue with women bosses. Provide one solid, well researched, unbiased study that women bosses are hated by male co-workers. And prove that if a woman boss it disrespected, that's it merely due to her gender and not because the male employee's take issue with her managerial methods. I'm sure there are plenty of crap women bosses out there to counter balance the good ones.

Again, where are you getting this "ball-buster" cliche from? If anything, you're being sexist because you just assume all women bosses in media are supposed to be ball-busting. Nothing in her demeanor or the actresses delivery came across as ball-busting. Like I said, she seemed rather laid back.

If you think this is such a problem, why aren't you just as annoyed by Pratt's characterization? You demonize it enough, but you're sympathy only lies with Howards character. Isn't Pratt's character damaging to men too. Or just women?

My last piece: Even though I think that Whedon's thoughts were silly. I don't think he should apoligze for stating his opinion. It wasn't said in an offensive manner and while it was public I don't think it was said maliciously. I think more filmmakers should call out bad things they see in movies, maybe will cause some filmmakers to step up their game


Im still mixed on the movie. The clip wasn't bad to me. It just didn't fit my expectations. The whole "Im rigid and don't know how to have fun but I have a romance with a free loving, fun person" angle doesn't really appear to me. I was also hoping that PRatt's character would be less jokey.

Im still looking forward to this. But I am, and have been, cautiously optimistic
