I just wanted to take this chance to say good bye to all of the regular posters here on the political forum. You guys have turned this place into a great place for political debate, and it has been a pleasure discussing all things politics with you over the past few years.

My job has taken a new turn that is giving me opportunities outside of my classroom to influence education and curriculum in my district. With these new opportunities comes less time to do other things. I'm excited about what lies ahead, but sad that I have to move on from here.

It has definitely been a blast, and I wish all of you the best in your lives. Stay passionate, stay safe, and be sure and tweet me every once in awhile to let me know how life is.....

So what is this new opportunity, pretty pretty please. Are you writing a Math textbook

LOL, no I'm not writing a math textbook, I am leading a vertical AP Social Studies team from 6th grade to 12th grade, as well as working with a program called AVID that takes students 6th grade -- 12th grade that need the extra push to go to college that maybe they aren't getting at home, from friends, etc....we take students that most would simply forget, teach them skills that will help them be successful in college, encouraging them to take Pre AP and AP classes in high school that they probably would have never thought of taking. Most are from homes where neither parent went to college, and they will probably be the first in their families to go, we help them get financial aid, scholarships, etc. These are kids that teachers see the potential in, but no one has ever taken the time to grow that potential, that is what we do. These kids are children of poverty, and this is truly their only opportunity to go further with their education. We have peer coaches from local colleges that come in and work with the students 2 days a week, they talk with their teachers, and make sure that they have everything they need to be successful. It is an awesome program and one that I'm really proud of. So along with curriculum writing, training teachers, etc....my time is no longer my own....lol, but I love it. And I'm very excited that we are taking this school smack in the middle of a very poor area of Houston into the next chapter that can help it to compete with any high school in the nation. And I'm proud to be a part of the building of that, definitely a legacy I will be proud to leave when I retire.

AVID's success rate in college graduates that it sends after going through it's program is about 85%....I think we'll be sending more than 1....
