It's hard to say what Fox is willing to do as far as playing ball. Obviously, the Sony-Marvel deal shows Marvel is willing to do so under some circumstances. On the other hand, the Sony leaks seemed to indicate Sony felt Fox was far more likely to play ball. When it comes to crossovers, there's a lot we don't know. However, when it comes to the tone of Fox's movies, we have a pretty good track record we can make predictions from.

Considering that one is willing to come to the surface world to broker peace and joins with the Justice League because they share goals and the other is out for revenge against the surface world for polluting his waters and overfishing, then only caves in and joins the Avengers because Attuma is a bigger threat despite being an old friend of Captain America and Winter Soldier, I'd call that a pretty big difference.

Also, Aquaman is bulletproof, wields a trident and commands the creatures of the deep, Namor is a glass canon who can project jets of water and fly. They're different enough. Plus, Namor was Marvel's first character ever. They cannot let DC walk all over their turf.

This is a good post. I agree. I really hope they do something with Namor. I'd love to see them pay homage to his Golden Age origin as well.

However, Marvel biding their time with the Namor rights situation while they do their Infinity Gauntlet story is probably for the best. We don't need two kings of Atlantis in the theaters at the same time. We also don't even know how successful DC is going to be with Aquaman yet. It could do well. It could flop. Let DC break some ground for a change.

As it is I'm wondering how DC will pull off Aquaman without making him seem like Thor. There are a lot of similarities between them especially with the whole sibling rivalry thing. If they had done the blonde bearded Aquaman from the 90's that would have been too much. Momoa is a potentially interesting turn but I'm not sold on him as Aquaman at the moment. I would've preferred the look and feel from Geoff Johns' recent run. And I think that gold plated armor would have been rad - especially reflecting underwater - and much better than the shirtless tattoo look.

I think if Namor ever shows up, he would probably be introduced as a straight up villain first in someone else's film. Probably a big ensemble film. Thats just a safer bet. I don't know what DC approach is with Aquaman, but we know he already have a solo film on the slate. Marvel will observe what they do and take a different route.

I thought he just meant his ability to project water from his body. It's not something he's done often though.

But Namor is absolutely a powerhouse and can go toe-to-toe with the likes of Hulk and Thor. He's definitely physically much more powerful than Aquaman. He's also demonstrated control over some sea-life as well but not to the degree of Aquaman's powers so Arthur's got him beat there. But they are different enough I think.

I'd love to see Namor introduced as a villain first. That'd be cool.

Of course they are. Marvel-Disney made over a billion on Spider-man merch alone last year despite Sony's crappy films. So it probably makes sense that if they made better films that number will only increase as opposed eventually declining.

X-men and F4 are different since they don't generate that type of money on merch even when combined. But it would clearly help Fox more to have movie merchandise than not to.

I can almost guarantee that they would've gambled with another Daredevil film if they had merchandising to fall back on so in my opinion what Marvel-Disney is doing with the merch has worked. Same with Ghost Rider SOV.

It flopped and didn't have a security blanket (merchandise) to fall back on. And since Sony/LionsGate clearly didn't care about that franchise in the first place, they struck up a deal and it reverted.

This is basically the game at play here. So here's to Marvel continuing to win one piece at a time. Sure it sucks that some people won't get a Wolverine hat, FF comic but since I'm not getting a decent X-men or F4 film anytime soon don't expect any real sympathy.

If Marvel felt like they really needed a time traveling villain but didn't need Kang's backstory, they could always use Zarrko, the Tomorrow Man.

He's nowhere near as major a player as Kang, but I can't imagine Marvel not having the rights. AND he was around about a year before Kang's first appearance.

You know I actually thought about Zarrko in lieu of Kang. (As long as the name doesn't come across as too silly sounding.) I loved his role in the Reigning. I'm sure they still have him. Or let's just say... If Marvel doesn't have the rights to one of Thor's villains then things really are screwed up.

I really don't see them going the time traveller route, though... but there is that "Time Stone" coming into play soon, so who knows.

But Kang is way more interesting as a villain though. You have all these paradoxes involved with his various incarnations through time as Rama Tut and Immortus etc. The idea that his future self would travel through time to defeat his former self. Thor and Moondragon in the Wild West with Two Gun Kid. The Avengers' former selves from various eras forming a time-spanning roster to battle Kang and Immortus through the ages, etc. Wild wild stuff.

This really is such a shame. Kang is a huge part of the Avengers mythos. I would have loved to have seen these stories adapted some day. But yay for grounded, gritty lo-fi low-budget FF I guess.

Yeah - This definitely has potential. The new Spider-Man deal could end up a real blessing for fans. Lots of directions to go now - even Dark Reign.

But I still want Kang to come back home.

There's still a lot of ambiguity about the Skrull rights but my thinking is we'll see them in the MCU eventually sans the Super-Skrull. Which I am actually ok with because I was digging the Secret Invasion storyline in the comics but thought the Super-Skrull thing was stupid.

Yes but that's why you have to make it a secret invasion.

Spread the story across films and don't play your hand right away kind of like how they did it in the comics. Show that they've been here for years. That could be a very different enough angle I think.

Unfortunate but not the end of the world.

For Doom Marvel's got The High Evolutionary, Osborn, Real Mandarin and Zemo (who's pending)

MCU is still yet to introduce Modoc, Taskmaster, Skrulls, Savage land inhabitants, Cancer-verse (GoTG maybe)

And a decent fill in for Galactus would be Planet Ego. Give him some upgraded minions/heralds and most would be fine with that.

After thinking about it I really don't care about Kang. The only reason people are worried is because Fox has him and won't likely ever use him. But it's Marvel after all and it's not like they can't make new ones that Fox can't touch.
