Kristen Bell will play Christina Aguilera's rival in Burlesque, Screen Gems' musical drama being directed by Steve Antin.

The film centers on the journey of an ambitious small-town girl (Aguilera) with a big-town voice who finds love and success in a Los Angeles neo-burlesque club, reminiscent of the nightclub in Bob Fosse's Cabaret.

Bell will play Nikki, the loose-cannon lead dancer and main attraction at the club who spirals out of control when Aguilera's character suddenly gets the spotlight.

Shooting begins Nov. 9 with a release set for Nov. 24, 2010.

I'd rent this to see Aguilera in Burlesque clothing. The premise sounds almost the exact same as Showgirls though.

That's what I was kinda thinking also when reading the premise. Glad i'm not the only one thinking that.

Just replace the Burlesque club for the Showgirls stage show and there ya go.

Without the nudity there's no appeal. :down

..said you-know-how

It is Steve Antin directing....so its basically gonna be Pussycat Dolls the movie.

I like Kristen Bell and I'm curious to see Christian Aguilera in an acting role, but despite the premise this movie will probably be as hardcore as a PG-13 movie or a Pussycat Dolls MV.

But I hate Screen Gems. They make the worst movies...

I have no choice but to see this film

I liked the sound of Kristen Bell and Christina Aguilera in skimpy showgirl outfits. But after watching the trailer... I am clearly not the demographic they are aiming for. :o

Ditto :)
Good for Bell, she made one more step into the movie industry.
They also resurected Cher or it is a special effect ?

Showgirls: The Musical

Always wondered what that would have been like, now I know.

she sings? oohhhhh what a suprise.

Sweet fancy moses, this looks bad. I have a very open mind and was looking forward to this.

I just didn't realize that the dialogue was going to be so bland and the cliches were going to be laid on so thick. I'm hoping that Tucci has some fun with his role though. He's always worth watching.
