Religulous is a documentary directed by Larry Charles and stars American comedian Bill Maher, host of Real Time With Bill Maher on HBO. According to Maher, the title of the film is a portmanteau derived from the words "religion" and "ridiculous", implying the satirical nature of the documentary that is meant to mock the concept of religion and the problems it brings about.

Known for his stance against religion, Bill Maher's views on the various world religions are explored as he travels to numerous religious destinations, such as Jerusalem and the Vatican, interviewing believers from a variety of backgrounds and groups, including Jews for Jesus, Muslims, polygamists, Satanists, Hasidic Scholars and even Rael of the Raelian Movement.

I'm looking forward to this.

While I may agree with the point behind the documentary, I really hope its an honest documentary, and not Bill being an *******. Whenever Bill talks about religion he gets smarmy and condescending, and I don't think I could watch an entire film about him doing that.

LMAO The Senator: "You don't have to pass a IQ test to be a senate"
after he says that they look at each other. that was some smart editing. i doubt that after that they looked eachother like that.

but it wiill be funny to watch this kind of stuff again.

I'm intrigued, but only slightly. I watch Real Time for the guests, not for Maher, who I find arrogant and often times not very insightful. I'd be up for this film more if it didn't include Maher, who I feel could just bring this down more than a few notches. Maher is noteworthy for projecting his misconceptions onto all religion, when really his problem is fundamentalists and those with extremist views. Not defending those people in the slightest, but I think Maher's problem was best pointed out by [friend of his show] Timothy Robbins. When he was once was talking about religion Tim pointed out that "You're talking about a certain kind of Christian". Which, in this case, he was. Also I find Bill Maher is an outsider when it comes to religion, he doesn't really seem to study it and "lays waste" to it by simply using the same, old, tired, cliche' arguments against it. I'd be more interested in someone who could offer some real, well thought out, insightful challenges to religion, rather than simply being a Bible basher whose point of view is already well known and overblown.

I dont like Bill Maher. Hes rude, I dont always see eye to eye with him. When those 2 things combine he becomes obnoxious to me. But when it comes to religion we see eye to eye.

Seeing as Im not a fan I dont always know what Bill is about but I feel like he likes to poke at religion like its a scab. I usually take the George Carlin route in those circumstances. "Keep thy religion to thyself"
