LONDON - Conservationists should "pull the plug" on giant pandas and let them die out, according to BBC presenter and naturalist Chris Packham."Here's a species that, of its own accord, has gone down an evolutionary cul-de-sac," Packham told Radio Times magazine.
Packham believes that money spent on conserving the panda would be better invested in other animals as the species is not strong enough to survive alone.

"Hey you. Panda bear! We don't take kindly to your types around here!"

Personally, I think he makes a lot of sense. As un-PC as it is to say that...

Pandas have been around for millions of years, and they are popular around the world. I don't see why we should let pandas died out, esp. since there is a vast interest to preserve their existence, similar to other endangered species like the tigers.

I say we make an animal Thunderdome.

I believe if natural selection is making a species extinct then maybe they should die, but panda's have a lot more going for their extinction than simple natural selection. We should try at least to fix damage we have done and by we I mean the chinese.

Plus if panda's die out future generations won't be able to enjoy Anchorman, and that's a global tragedy.

Pandas are beautiful animals...if we can preserve them and save them, we should.

Yes but the money that's being thrown around trying to preserve pandas, which are effectively a lost cause, could save a large number of endangered species which could actually have a legitimate shot if their numbers were allowed to swell.

The only reason this much money is put into pandas is because of self-interest by the WWF. The panda is their cute logo and they get a lot more funding because of it.

Pandas are done, we're merely delaying the inevitable. Even with human interference they're still dying out because their desire to breed isn't strong enough. There's not much more natural an end to a species than that...

We can't... but we can delay the inevitable for a little.

We should just let humanity die out. It wastes so many more resources than saving pandas.

Well as long as they don't expect me to weigh out any money, I don't give a toss.

You know it :D

Sure they are cute and all that. But I, and at this point, the ENTIRE world has more important things to do with their dosh.

I bet roast panda tastes pretty good. If I were Andrew Zimmern... I'd shell out some bucks to make that happen.

C'mon man, panda can't even punch one out without some *****ebag with a camera taking a candid photo of the incident...

Well, like you said there's financial reason for preserving pandas as well. WWF gets more funding thanks to pandas, and the Chinese government loan them to various zoos around the world for alot of money, and the zoos attract many people wanting to see them up close. It sucks that other endangered species aren't treated equally, but that's the way it is.

I believe I speak for everyone when I say to hell with the WWF.
