Would anyone else love to see shuri in the black panther movie? I think they should wait til the sequel for her to suit up but I think she would be amazing.
I have no idea who could play her though. Thoughts?

I think T'Challa's sister should be in the movie (which isn't a given, she's a recent creation). I don't think she should become Black Panther. And I don't mean save it for later, I don't think she should become Black Panther period. There are other characters to focus on more, while having her become the leader makes her the center of the story.

I don't know much about Black Panther's comics and history outside of what I've read through marvel wiki, the cartoons/animated movies and avengers, but I will say I like the idea of his sister some day sitting on the throne, perhaps when their father dies/is killed.

I think it would be very progressive and interesting to see a strong woman ascend the throne and rule as queen while her brother took on the mantle of black panther and decided not to rule. This would add to some political and maybe civil conflict in Wakanda and help give the Black Panther story even more depth in sequel films.

Just my thought, but I like Lupita or Naomi Harris....although one of them better place Storm in the new Xmen film if it does take place in the 80s/90s.

They should definitely consider including her right away.

Shuri should be a big part of the movie IMO..very similar to Black Widow in TWS..

as for who should play her..Lupita Nyong'o seems pretty obvious. But my other candidate is Samira Wiley of Orange is the New Black. She has chops and tons of charisma imo

I can so do without this character. If she is involved, keep her in the background (far in the background).

And certainly not Lupita. I'd rather see her as the leader of the Dora Milaje.

I never want to see anyone besides T'Challa with the mantle of Black Panther in present day.

She doesn't have to take the mantle of Black Panther to be important. She's still royalty and seems to have an antagonistic chemistry with T'Challa about what's best for their country.

Yea, that's what I don't really like and can do without. T'Challa has enough antagonists as it is. I just find her often to be a whiny brat of a character. Never been a fan.

I've never been a fan Shuri and when she became BP i didn't like it. She had her moments but T'challa is BP. I want them to keep it that way. Let her be in the film cause she is his sibling.

personally i dont want to see Shuri! this is T'challa's epic flick and unless we see them as kids or something i want it to be centered around his epic greatness . reading about dude for as long as i have she seemed like an after thought from Marvel which i can do without.

She should take over before T'Challa leaves with Lockjaw and the Avengers to meet up with Thor/Guardians to take on Thanos.

I'd bet money that she's gonna be in the movie and that Lupita is Marvel's 1st and maybe even only choice. The casting is almost more obvious than Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool or Henry Cavill as Superman.

I have a feeling Lupita going to be in this movie..in some capacity. She's definitely the 'it' girl at the moment.

I say no. The only use of the character was to replace her brother and if they don't plan to do that in the movies then they don't need her. The character isn't even 10 years old yet.

Not necessarily. In fact, if T'challa is always gone off having adventures somewhere (I'm assuming he gets sequels and they don't all take place in Wakanda), it makes sense for someone else to (eventually) be leader.

That could be interesting. Though I hope they go with the original idea for the Dora Milaje...two of them and not an army.

The "T'Challa is the BP" argument doesn't really work. This isn't Batman or Iron Man, where they're largely invented around one character. "Black Panther" being a title that's passed down through the royal family of Wakanda is an established part of the mythos. There isn't ONE BP, there are many.

T'Challa is the Black Panther that the title refers to.

This isn't an argument from an in-universe perspective, it's an argument from a movie-making perspective.

True, from a comic fan's perspective, I understand.
But from a *general audience* perspective, more than one Black Panther (or at least more than just the one bloodline) is too much to swallow.

Yes to Shuri in the supporting cast; no to Shuri in the panther suit.

Yup. Just like the Phantom come to think of it

So if CA: Civil War ends with Bucky or Falcon taking up Steve's mantle, would it be too much for them?

I'd like Lupita to have a more substantial role and actually be a superhero headlining her own film. Shuri seems like waste of her talents. I dont think Shuri would play a big role in this film anyway, probably just a cameo if that. So they would likely go with an unknown actress.

I'm surprised at the negativity surrounding Shuri here. Her presence doesnt mean she's gonna take on the mantle of Panther. There are so few kickass female heroes out there and pretty much no black ones. Marvel has a real opportunity here to do something great with her.

There's no reason why Shuri couldnt be written as a great sidekick for T'Challa not unlike BW was for Cap. A brother-sister warrior combo kicking ass and taking names together would be terrific imo.

Shuri might be an intriguing tease for a sequel though. Say in the first one that she's studying abroad in Hong Kong or Paris or maybe johannesburg and then bring her in for the sequel.

That said though I would miss her and that lupita casting suggestion is too good to pass up

Lupita is my first choice and Naomie Harris is my second choice.
