Fantasy Live action Moana

Pretty sure they can find someone else to voice a brain-damaged rooster.

Or just use actual rooster sounds. Really they could have just used Tudyk's archived recordings from the animated Moana and nobody would have known the difference.

Disney fans right now:

I'm expecting it'll be a carbon copy of the animated movie, like How to Train Your Dragon. It doesn't even need to add anything for padding like The Lion King either since the original is an hour and 43 minutes long.

Might have a new song, for Oscar purposes. Give it to the Rock. Punishment for any who decide to see this in theaters!

Doing their lesser known films as Disney+ originals was a nice idea, tho.

Ah yes. From Wiki:

Mark Mancina, who provided the musical score for the original film and its sequel, confirmed in December 2024 that he will return to score the remake. Lin-Manuel Miranda, who was a songwriter for the original film, will also return. He was not involved with Moana 2 due to scheduling conflicts.

LMM wouldn't be returning for this if he wasn't writing at least one or two new songs.

Yeah, I’m going to be the first dissenting voice and say this does not look good at all.

First of all, the green screen compositing is so jarringly obvious. Everyone looks and feels like they’re all in entirely fake CGI environments. The CGI somehow looks even worse and less realistic than the animated film. The attempts at recreating the looks of characters, aesthetics and scenes and feels so artificial, forced and unnatural (I’m sorry, I did not for a single second buy that line delivery of “I am Moana” at the very end one bit). The live-action Lilo and Stitch at least tries to justify its existence by filming in actual locations, does some things differently and has the charm of Chris Sanders coming back to voice Stitch. This has none of that. Despite trying to replicate the original film, everything just looks and feels wrong. If I’m just going to watch a pretty much an entirely CG film with a few actual actors just re-creating the animated film, I’d rather just watch the animated film.

You guys are free to enjoy this, but, sorry to say, this is a pass for me.

I fully agree but this'll make a billion anyway.

Dreamworks did the exactly same thing and so many people loved it. Everyone who went and saw the 2019 Lion King proved this is all you need to do.

Got a lot more respect for Lilo and Stitch. Which at least tried to be something.

You know, it’s funny, when I saw the thumbnail for the trailer, my first thought was that it looked like those fake AI generated trailers all over YouTube. That’s not a good thing.

Nah you're spot on. There is something off about the whole trailer, especially that last shot.
