I had a similar conversation with my genetics professor. His final was worth ten points towards the final grade but his ideology was if you needed something like a 20 on the final don't show up and he'll bump up the grade. Cause it's improbable to not get a 20. So he had people with low 70s asking for 'b's cause they were "so close." We had a good laugh.
