I dunno if you've ever watched Gilmore Girls, but most of the musical tastes expressed on the show are punk, indy or at least not in the Billboard top 20.

In the show, Jess (Milo Ventimiglia's character) took Rory to a Distillers concert, and Rory was at a bar where the Shins were playing. There have been more I'm sure, but I can't think of too many.
