looks like we've got lex and alfred....

Eisenberg as Luthor is one the worst casting decisions ever.

There was a guy by the name of Bryan Cranston, who just finished probably one the greatest acting jobs in the history of TV that would have been perfect for Lex Luthor. Guess the producers and casting department never saw it.

I watched a couple of Social Network scenes and I'm actually impressed by his cold aggressiveness that Lex typically displays. But his voice is kind of offputting... like a lot.

He sounds like a kid. And that's coming from a 19-year-old kid who people still call kid.

So you've also seen the film? Can I borrow your time machine

:P, I can't see it either...I have not seen it, but usually I'd say I'm pretty spot on with how actors will play a role and very few times they surprise me.

Some good some bad.

I think the "metaphorical" term "vision" would be a better choice word on how a character will play, I can't vision Eisenberg playing Lex to both Ben Affleck (who looks 40+), and Henry Cavill (a 30ish year old)...He just looks to young.

I hope I am wrong though...just some of my favorite scenes are seeing both around the same age Batman and Lex talking. Seeing two completely different views on humanity and both being billionaires and genius's. I've always quite liked those scenes.

I am already envisioning Eisenberg playing Eisenberg..with a bald cap on.

With this news, I'm kind of back to rooting for this movie to fail, since hoping they succeed will just result in disappointment. Maybe that'll change, but that's where I am now.

Disappointing.

But amused.

That's all I have to say really.

I don't dislike Eisenberg as an actor and he is a good one to be sure, I am just feeling very what the ****ed about this.

My turn !

1) Eisenberg: Don't knock it till you see it people. In "Now you see me," he does condescending arrogance par excellence - that interrogation scene where he puts
Ruffalo in his place.

Yes, it is an enormous break from the comic book and movie tradition of bald
middle-aged men as the world's smartest man.

Also, remember when Nolan cast a young Australian, who'd previously done mostly light action, romantic comedy and a drama about latent homosexuality in cowboys to play the most feared villain in comic book history................sometimes weird castings work.

I would have preferred Joaquin Phoenix, but I think Eisenberg will surprise us.
He does portray cold intelligence well. Perhaps he won't be a sophisticated Luthor, but a cold, genius Luthor with an appetite for power who thinks nothing of the people around him - someone we'll be hanging out to see get punched, that he can definitely do.

PS- why a bald cap ? Why does Lex Luthor have to be bald ? If the Mandarin doesn't have to be Chinese, why does Lex Luthor have to be bald ? (not that I thought that the Mandarin twist was good at all, I hated it) but really, in all the comic books, since 1985 anyway, in what storyline does Luthor's baldness feature as anything but part of his appearance ? Sure, it might look wrong, but is it really
an essential part of the character ? Just IMO.

2) Irons as Alfred. Perfect follow up to Michael Caine. Irons oozes class and poise, and you can already hear him carefully enunciating Alfred's sarcastic barbs.

So very well done on that front, couldn't think of anyone better.

And in the end, time will tell.

Heath Ledger as The Joker.
Anne Hathaway as Catwoman.
Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man.
Chris Evans as Captain America.
etc.

Some people just never learn to stop jumping the gun do they?

Out of all those...I was only worried about Heath...

Everyone else, I could see playing there respective parts.

Now, on the other end....I can say that Carol ferris (Blake lively), Catwoman, (Halle Berry), and topher grace(venom) - all lived up to my low expectations.

Totally agree on that Blake Lively was so boring in GL, for most of the film I forgot she was there, least engaging romantic partner for a superhero EVER !

Halle Berry at least looked great at Catwoman, I think it was the movie as a whole that was a stinker, not just her acting.

Topher Grace as venom......cast against type and totally ignored the comic book character, and though that's not always a recipe for disaster ( e.g. Ledger) it certainly didn't do any good for one of Spidey's greatest foes, to be anything but annoying on the big screen.

Having said that, I get where you're coming from on Luthor. But consider this, MOS broke the mold already in the way it's depicted certain elements of the classic story (e.g. Lois Lane not only knowing Supes' identity but being the one who essentially discovers him, the fortress of solitude, the end of Krypton), as such maybe this is just another break with the established orthodoxy that will work, and Eisenberg will be a really enjoyable, devious and intelligent Luthor ( well, I bet he will still be better than Topher Grace as Venom, that portrayal truly did suck ).

It's that blasted Birthright graphic novel where Luther is friends with Clark and Luther is an arrogant Jerk.

I was indifferent to Hathaway as Catwoman before TDKR. And when I saw it, I didn't like her. There just wasn't a lot of "spice" in her portrayal. I feel like Selena Kyle should be more ostentatious while in Selena mode and playful when in Catwoman mode. Hathaway was neither.

This is a grounded universe. A technological captain of industry is going to be a young geeky guy like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Larry Page, Steve Brin, Mark Cuban, or Mark Zuckerberg. Eisenberg is perfect for that role. Furthermore, based on his age, he could do several film unlike Brian Cranston.

Since when is LEX LUTHOR equivalent to Bill Gates or Zuckerberg? They need to do the character justice not make him more "grounded". This was a fail casting, you can say Heath all day long, but it will be a disaster.
