My turn !
1) Eisenberg: Don't knock it till you see it people. In "Now you see me," he does condescending arrogance par excellence - that interrogation scene where he puts
Ruffalo in his place.
Yes, it is an enormous break from the comic book and movie tradition of bald
middle-aged men as the world's smartest man.
Also, remember when Nolan cast a young Australian, who'd previously done mostly light action, romantic comedy and a drama about latent homosexuality in cowboys to play the most feared villain in comic book history................sometimes weird castings work.
I would have preferred Joaquin Phoenix, but I think Eisenberg will surprise us.
He does portray cold intelligence well. Perhaps he won't be a sophisticated Luthor, but a cold, genius Luthor with an appetite for power who thinks nothing of the people around him - someone we'll be hanging out to see get punched, that he can definitely do.
PS- why a bald cap ? Why does Lex Luthor have to be bald ? If the Mandarin doesn't have to be Chinese, why does Lex Luthor have to be bald ? (not that I thought that the Mandarin twist was good at all, I hated it) but really, in all the comic books, since 1985 anyway, in what storyline does Luthor's baldness feature as anything but part of his appearance ? Sure, it might look wrong, but is it really
an essential part of the character ? Just IMO.
2) Irons as Alfred. Perfect follow up to Michael Caine. Irons oozes class and poise, and you can already hear him carefully enunciating Alfred's sarcastic barbs.
So very well done on that front, couldn't think of anyone better.
And in the end, time will tell.
