Okay, I'm not a costumer by any means, but I'm thinking of getting the Rubie's deluxe TDK costume this Halloween. However, I saw a Rubie's deluxe mask in person last year at a costume shop, and it looked as deflated as a 90 year old's love life without benefit of medical assist.

Thus I'm wondering: How hard would it be to make a helmet-like cowl for costuming purposes or to take an existing "floppy" cowl and somehow re-inforce it?

I know some of you lads here are vastly more talented and experienced than I in such matters. I'd appreciate any advice/suggestions you can offer.

If you want to use the Rubies cowl you can glue one of those plastic TDK face masks to the inside to reinforce it and fill out the details.

Also, use Rubies' 3/4 Begins mask (or the 3/4 TDK mask, if its the same) as a starting point, as it has a much more accurate sculpt than the deluxe Begins version, is a tighter fit, and has nothing extra to trim off.

(All of the catalog photos I've seen for the deluxe TDK cowl actually use an image of the 3/4 Begins mask with a neck photoshopped in.)

I saw what appeared to be a fairly large TDK mask in a package at TRU today. Would that be a good mask to use to reinforce the latex cowl?

If its blister carded and around $6, it actually seems to be a bit too flexible, as though its made out of some sort of foam rubber or something. I could be wrong, but that's what it seemed like in the package anyway. The adult sized hard plastic ones should be showing up at Wal-Marts and party stores pretty soon.
