A 29-year-old man was Yoshifumi Takabe, 29, was arrested for burning down his house after his mother threw away his Gundam action figures, according to various reports.
According to a story by The Escapist, factory worker Yoshifumi Takabe, 29, doused his room with kerosene and set it on fire in a suicide attempt. Takabe, who shared the home in Kobe, Japan with his mother, was distraught after learning that she threw out the "valuable" Gundam anime/manga models. His mother was in the house at the time, the story said, but neither of them were hurt. The house, however, burned down to the ground.

Wow, talk about taking fandom to the extreme.

I think we should be expecting to be down one member now.

I'm totally on this guys side.

So am I. One of the best things about being an adult is that I no longer have to worry about my mom getting near any of my collectibles.

Me too. What a *****.

If someone broke my Celtic mask, i'd go all Predator on them.

Go cry me river! Bad things happen. People die. Valuble action figures get thrown away.
Not worth burning your house down. Grow up!

I wonder if they were Master Grade or Perfect Grades.

The work some of those guys over there put into their Gundam Kits is astonishing, no wonder he is pissed.

Yeah, burning down your home over them?

I mean I have a figure collection of Doctor Who, but if someone was to throw them away, I'd be very pissed, but burning down my home over it?

That is extreme.

This is why Western Civilization should stay away from all things Japanese (that don't involve giant monsters that are actually guys in uncomfortable rubber suits).

Because you're the hero we deserve but not the one we need right now. So we'll mock your posts because you can take it. Because you're not a hero. You're a silent Mustela putorius furo. A watchful poster. A SuperFerret. :brucebat:

They aren't swimming 'cause they're all dead.
They never are what we intend or invent". - Brand New

Take that! Never quote my signature, you'll dilute the coolness of it.

I understand the dude had a passion and must have been a very valuable collection but still. Now he has lost both his collection and his house. Land rates are very high in Japan. Good luck.
The people of Japan are too stressed out for their own good.

Suicide? Sheesh! If sold to a pawn shop he could very well get them back, those people probably wouldn't be very knowlegdeable of their value.
Also, if he cared about them that much, he could have told his mother about it.
Tell her that what he does is essentially philately (stamp collection) but for action figures

I bet they were expensive too, some probably one of those customs.

@CelticPredator

I believe the correct term would be Drama Queen...

You mean he wasn't burned or nothing? That's really a shame. Idiot.

He ruined a whole house (which I'm sure is worth way more than all of those Gundam action figures combined) and nearly killed his mother tripping over some stupid fandom. I have some valuable X-men comics, but I wouldn't kill myself over them. Jeez, dude. Get a life!

Something tells me it wasn't just because of his valuable Gundam action figures... Something tells me this kid had some other social problems too.
