...to the distinguished competition?

According to James Gunn he won't be attending SDCC because Marvel isn't. When do you think they'll present Cumberbatch and the new Spider-Man to the public first? Maybe we can expect a Phase 3 type announcement randomly?

Marvel Studios has grown too big for hall H, that's a fact. The way they did their Phase 3 announcement is probably the way they will go in the future, a Marvel Studios only event maybe on a yearly schedule relativley close to the SDCC to steal the thunder of the SDDC shows of the Distinguished Competition and...uh...Fox.
And this is basically a win/win situation. You don't have to camp 20 hours in front of Hall H just to get Marvel Studio announcements and can enjoy other parts of the SDCC too (which you would miss sitting in Hall H watching trailers for movies no one wants to see anyway just because you don't want to lose your seat when in 6 hours MS takes the stage). I heard they sell comic books there. Maybe Marvel fans can now spend their time and money investing in the source material

Either way, it will be missed.

They were responsible for the most epic movie panels in SDCC history.

Civil War is the the biggest movie they are coming out next year right? Uhh...they can do that at D23.

With Batman/Superman, Suicide Squad, Deadpool, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Gambit all being released next year, it is probably best that they don't attend an already crowded field.

Plus, Batman/Superman will probably be the biggest thing there.

That's disappointing. SDCC was the one time a year where we get major news from all the studios. Now that we were finally going to get the best Comic Con in years they leave?

They're conceding Comic Con because it's a D23 year. They were also a no show in 2011 (for the Avengers) because of D23 as well. I would imagine they'll also save their big Star Wars presentation for D23 as well.

This year SDCC totally belongs to WB,Marvel Studios doesn't even need it anymore.

Makes sense to me they will just show their hand at D23.

I'm with some of the others here. Marvel has gotten big enough to where they really just need their own event. They just have way too much going on to squeeze it all into SDCC

I'm sure Disney wanted them to save the big reveals for D23, and they didn't see the point in doing an underwhelming SDCC.

At this point Marvel can make any sort of announcement anywhere or anytime they want. The Phase 3 lineup wasn't done at SDCC.

Won't they be in the middle of production for Cap # and Doctor Strange? They might not have enough time and don't want to show a half-assed product. Mayb they'll be at D23 or NYCC instead.

I think this is just a one year thing.

No. Two years ago, when they were filming GOTG for only two weeks, Marvel showed a video that was pretty much exactly like the first teaser.
